India will celebrate the 15th National Voters’ Day (NVD) on 25 January 2025, just a day before Republic Day. This year’s celebration is particularly significant, following the successful conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the largest democratic exercise in the world. The Election Commission of India (ECI) also marks 75 years of service to the nation on this occasion.
Celebrating a Growing Electorate
India’s electorate is approaching the 100 crore mark, with the current electoral database standing at 99.1 crore voters. The rolls reflect a youthful and gender-balanced population, with 21.7 crore young voters (18-29 age group) and a 6-point increase in the Electoral Gender Ratio, which rose from 948 in 2024 to 954 in 2025.
Honoring Excellence in Election Management
The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will preside over the national function in New Delhi as the Chief Guest. The event will also feature Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), as the Guest of Honour, alongside the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.
During the event, the President will present Best Electoral Practices Awards to state and district officials who excelled in ensuring smooth elections. Special recognition will be given for initiatives that improved voter participation, utilized innovative technology, and enhanced accessibility.
International Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
In the lead-up to NVD, the ECI is hosting a two-day conference (23-24 January 2025) for heads and representatives of global election management bodies. This conference will address key challenges in election management worldwide.

National Voters’ Day: A Tribute to Democracy
Since its inception in 2011, National Voters’ Day has been observed annually to commemorate the establishment of the Election Commission on 25 January 1950. The event aims to underscore the importance of voters, inspire active participation in democracy, and encourage enrollment of new voters. Young voters are honored and presented with their Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) during ceremonies nationwide.
Celebrated at national, state, district, and polling booth levels, NVD is one of India’s most significant celebrations, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to democratic values.
