Namaskar!
Your Excellency, President and my brother Prabowo Subianto,
Delegates from both nations,
Friends from the media,
Indonesia holds a special place in India’s history, having been the Chief Guest at our very first Republic Day. As we celebrate our 75th Republic Day, it is a matter of immense pride that Indonesia has once again honored us with its presence. On behalf of India, I warmly welcome President Prabowo to this significant occasion.
Strengthening Strategic Ties
During my visit to Indonesia in 2018, we elevated our partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Today, our discussions with President Prabowo were extensive, covering various areas of mutual interest. A key focus was strengthening cooperation in the defense sector, specifically in defense manufacturing and supply chains.
We also emphasized collaboration in maritime security, cyber security, counter-terrorism, and de-radicalization. The agreement on maritime safety and security signed today will enhance joint efforts in crime prevention, search and rescue, and capacity building.
Trade and Technology
Bilateral trade between our countries has been growing rapidly, surpassing $30 billion last year. To further this momentum, we discussed diversifying trade markets and products. The private sector’s participation is vital, and I welcome the outcomes of the CEO Forum held today.
We’ve also agreed to deepen cooperation in emerging technologies such as FinTech, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and digital public infrastructure.
Health, Education, and Energy
India is sharing its experiences in public welfare, including the Mid-Day Meal Scheme and Public Distribution System, to bolster Indonesia’s initiatives in health and food security. Together, we will also explore opportunities in energy, critical minerals, space, science and technology, and STEM education. Moreover, our disaster management authorities will engage in joint exercises to enhance preparedness.
Cultural and Historical Ties
The relationship between India and Indonesia spans thousands of years, rooted in shared cultural heritage. Stories from the Ramayana, the Mahabharata, and the historic Bali Jatra reflect this deep bond. After supporting the conservation of the Buddhist Borobudur Temple, India is now contributing to the restoration of the Hindu Prambanan Temple.
In 2025, we will celebrate the Indo-ASEAN Year of Tourism, fostering greater cultural exchange and tourism between our nations.
Commitment to the Indo-Pacific
Indonesia remains a key partner in ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific. Both nations are committed to peace, security, prosperity, and a rules-based order in the region. Ensuring freedom of navigation in accordance with international law is a shared priority.
Our Act East Policy prioritizes ASEAN unity and centrality, and we work closely on platforms such as G-20, ASEAN, and the Indian Ocean Rim Association. With Indonesia’s inclusion in BRICS, we look forward to further collaboration in advancing the priorities of the Global South.
A Moment of Pride
Excellency, your visit as the Chief Guest for our Republic Day is a moment of great pride for us. We are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the Indonesian marching squad participate in the celebrations for the first time. Once again, I extend my heartfelt welcome to you and your delegation.
Thank you very much.
