Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, during a banquet hosted by Indian President Droupadi Murmu on January 25, 2025, highlighted the profound cultural and historical ties between India and Indonesia. Speaking passionately, he acknowledged the impact of ancient Indian civilization on Indonesian culture, language, and even genetics.
President Subianto shared a personal anecdote, revealing, “A few weeks ago, I underwent genetic sequencing and discovered Indian DNA in my heritage. Whenever I hear Indian music, I instinctively start dancing.”
He also praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, particularly his dedication to poverty alleviation and supporting marginalized communities. “In just a few days, I learned a lot from Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. His commitment to helping the weakest sections of society is truly inspirational,” Subianto remarked.
Expressing his admiration for India, he stated, “I am very proud to be here. I am not a professional politician or a diplomat; I speak from the heart. I wish prosperity, peace, and greatness for the people of India in the coming years. I hope India and Indonesia continue to strengthen their partnership and friendship.”
President Subianto visited India from January 23-26, 2025, at the invitation of PM Modi. He attended India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest, accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials, and business leaders from Indonesia.
During the visit, five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed and renewed, covering various fields such as health, traditional medicine, and maritime security.
The MoU on Health Cooperation was signed between India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Indonesia’s Ministry of Health.
The MoU on Maritime Safety and Security was renewed between the Indian Coast Guard and BAKAMLA, Indonesia.
An agreement on Traditional Medicine Quality Assurance was signed between the Ministry of AYUSH’s Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homeopathy and the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority.
This visit further cemented the strong bilateral relationship between India and Indonesia, emphasizing shared values and a commitment to mutual growth.
