Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman for allocating a significant ₹17,155 crore for the development of railways in Gujarat under the Budget 2025-26. This allocation marks a historic increase in railway investment for the state, with a remarkable 29-fold rise compared to the ₹589 crore allocated during the 2009-14 period.
Shri Shah emphasized that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, Gujarat’s railway infrastructure, along with that of the entire country, is experiencing a golden era of development and expansion. This allocation is expected to further accelerate this progress, bringing substantial improvements to the state’s transportation network.
In the past decade, the electrification of railway tracks in Gujarat has surged 22-fold, with 97% of the railway tracks now fully electrified. This major achievement is part of the broader modernization efforts underway across the state. Furthermore, Shri Shah highlighted that 87 stations across Gujarat would be redeveloped as part of the Amrit Station initiative, with an investment of ₹6,303 crore. Among the prominent stations to be upgraded are Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat, and Jamnagar.
Additionally, work is ongoing to redevelop seven major stations, including Gandhinagar Capital and Ahmedabad, at a cost of ₹5,572 crore. As the Member of Parliament for Gandhinagar, Shri Shah expressed particular pride in the ₹799 crore allocated for the redevelopment of Gandhinagar station, which is set to transform the city’s connectivity and support its growth.
This overhaul of the railway system is expected to not only improve transportation but also stimulate trade, industry, and job creation across Gujarat, further strengthening the state’s economy and infrastructure.
