In a significant breakthrough against drug syndicates operating in India, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai has dismantled a major drug network, seizing 11.54 kg of high-grade cocaine, 4.9 kg of hydroponic ganja, and 5.5 kg of cannabis gummies. The operation, which also resulted in the recovery of ₹1.6 lakh in cash, marks a major victory in India’s ongoing battle against narcotics.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, took to the social media platform X to commend the efforts of the NCB team, calling it a testament to the success of the government’s top-to-bottom approach in tackling the drug menace. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat (Drug-Free India) and emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drug cartels. “Bharat crushes drug cartels with zero tolerance,” he posted, applauding the NCB’s achievement.
This successful seizure was the result of sustained intelligence gathering and meticulous operational diligence by NCB Mumbai. The agency had been closely tracking leads from a previous seizure of 200 grams of cocaine in January 2025. Using a combination of technical and human intelligence, investigators traced the supply chain to Navi Mumbai, where the massive haul was eventually recovered on January 31, 2025.
The investigation revealed that the drug syndicate was being operated by individuals based abroad, employing sophisticated smuggling methods. The initial breakthrough came when a suspicious parcel, destined for Australia, was intercepted at an international courier agency in Mumbai. NCB officials backtracked the supply chain, leading them to the bulk storage location in Navi Mumbai. Evidence suggests that portions of the contraband were sourced from the United States and then distributed across India and abroad through courier services, small cargo shipments, and human carriers.
The complexity of this operation underscores the evolving tactics of drug networks, with members often remaining anonymous to each other and using pseudonyms for communication. So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further links and dismantle the network completely.
Shri Amit Shah congratulated the NCB team for their relentless efforts and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking. This crackdown serves as a strong warning to drug syndicates and reinforces India’s unwavering stand against the narcotics trade.
