Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to inaugurate a two-day Orientation Programme for the newly elected Members of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Haryana on February 14, 2025. The event, taking place at the State Legislature Premises in Chandigarh, is designed to familiarize legislators with the responsibilities and intricacies of their roles, ensuring they are well-prepared to serve their constituents effectively.
The occasion will be graced by prominent leaders, including Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly Harvinder Kalyan, and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with ministers and assembly members. Their presence highlights the bipartisan commitment to strengthening democratic processes and legislative efficiency in the state.
Over the course of two days, the newly elected legislators will receive guidance from Union Ministers, Parliamentary Committee Chairpersons, Members of Parliament, and domain experts. The sessions will cover crucial topics such as the role of an effective legislator, best practices in legislative and financial business, the significance of the committee system in parliamentary democracy, mechanisms for executive accountability, and the responsibilities of ministers in legislative processes. Additionally, participants will gain insights into parliamentary privileges and the National eVidhan Application (NeVA), a digital initiative aimed at modernizing legislative procedures.
The programme is being organized by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), Lok Sabha Secretariat, in collaboration with the Haryana Legislative Assembly Secretariat. PRIDE has played a key role in enhancing legislative knowledge across the country, having conducted 70 Orientation Courses since 1981, benefiting over 5,000 state assembly members.
This initiative reflects a deep commitment to empowering legislators with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate their parliamentary duties efficiently. By fostering a greater understanding of legislative processes, the programme aims to strengthen democratic governance and ensure that elected representatives are equipped to address the evolving needs of the people they serve.
