Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati, emphasizing Assam’s growing role as an economic powerhouse. Addressing the gathering, he hailed Assam’s dynamic workforce and rapid economic growth, calling the state a rising investment destination. He recalled his 2013 prediction that “A for Assam” would become a national norm and expressed satisfaction in seeing that vision come to life.
Despite global uncertainties, Modi asserted that one certainty remains—India’s rapid economic growth. He emphasized India’s long-term vision for the next 25 years, driven by a skilled and innovative young population, a growing middle class, and stable governance. The world, he noted, has increasing trust in India’s economic policies, free trade agreements, and global connectivity, including projects like the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
Modi highlighted Assam’s remarkable economic progress, noting that its economy has doubled in just six years, growing from ₹2.75 lakh crore in 2018 to nearly ₹6 lakh crore today. He attributed this success to the double-engine government at both state and central levels, which has fueled investments, improved connectivity, and strengthened education and skill development. He pointed out key infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of four new bridges over the Brahmaputra since 2014 and the modernization of 60 railway stations. Additionally, Assam’s air connectivity has expanded significantly, with flight routes increasing from seven in 2014 to nearly 30 today.
The Prime Minister also underscored Assam’s role in India’s broader economic transformation, calling it a gateway between South East Asia and India. He introduced the North East Transformative Industrialization Scheme, ‘Unnati,’ designed to boost industry, investment, and tourism across the region. Encouraging investors to take full advantage of Assam’s resources and strategic location, he cited Assam tea as a global brand and an example of the state’s economic potential.
As India advances its manufacturing sector under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Modi stressed the country’s commitment to low-cost manufacturing in pharmaceuticals, electronics, and automobiles. He pointed out Assam’s growing contributions to semiconductor production and green energy, including the establishment of a Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test facility in Jagiroad. He projected India’s electronics sector to reach $500 billion by the end of the decade, creating millions of jobs and further strengthening Assam’s economy.
Modi also emphasized India’s leadership in renewable energy, stating that the world views India’s Renewable Energy Mission as a model. Over the past decade, the country has made significant strides in solar and wind energy, setting ambitious targets such as adding 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. He expressed hope that Assam would emerge as a leader in the renewable energy sector, given its natural advantages and supportive government policies.
Reaffirming his commitment to Assam’s development, Modi expressed confidence that the Northeast will play a pivotal role in making India a developed nation by 2047. He invited investors, industry leaders, and stakeholders to be part of Assam’s journey toward becoming an economic powerhouse, assuring them of full government support in their contributions to Viksit Bharat.
The event saw the presence of several key leaders, including Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Ministers S. Jaishankar, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with other dignitaries.
