Ram Mandir is located in the city of Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. The city is an important religious site for Hinduism, as Lord Rama was born here.
According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Rama was born in Ayodhya. There used to be a grand temple at his birthplace, which was demolished by the Mughal emperor Babar in 1528 and a mosque was built there. The name of this mosque was Babri Masjid.
In 1992, a Hindu religious group demolished the Babri Masjid. After this incident, communal riots took place in the country, in which many people died.
In 2019, the Supreme Court of India ruled to build a Ram temple at the site of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
Construction
The construction of Ram Mandir started on 5 August 2020. The temple is being constructed by Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The Mandir has been designed by the Sompura family of Ahmedabad.
The construction work of the Mandir is going on at a fast pace. The construction of the temple is expected to be completed by 2024.
Mandir Features
Ram Mandir will be a grand temple. The height of the Mandir will be 161 feet, the width will be 235 feet and the length will be 360 feet. The temple will have a huge sanctum sanctorum, in which the idol of Lord Rama will be installed. The temple will also have a huge auditorium, accommodating 20,000 people.
The temple is being constructed in the Nagara style of Indian temple architecture. A huge shikhara will be at the top of the temple, which will be covered with gold.

Pran Pratishtha is a religious ritual in which the idol of God is installed for the first time in a mandir. The consecration of Ram temple will take place on 22 January 2024. The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers and other dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
The program of Pran Pratishtha will include the following rituals:
- The sanctum sanctorum of the mandir will be washed with holy water.
- The idol of Lord Ram will be bathed with holy water.
- The idol of Lord Ram will be installed in the sanctum sanctorum of the mandir.
- The idol of Lord Ram will be worshipped.
After Pran Pratistha, Ram temple will be formally inaugurated. Lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to come to Ayodhya on this occasion.
