The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has reached out to the public for comments regarding a significant business transaction involving Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) and AAM India Manufacturing Corporation Private Limited (AAMCPL). This move comes as the regulatory body examines the potential implications of BFL’s proposed acquisition of AAMCPL’s entire shareholding, along with full control over its operations, including key e-axle assembly lines from AAM Auto Component (India) Private Limited.
BFL is a well-established player in the global market, known for providing crucial forged components to a wide range of industries such as automotive, railways, defense, construction, and aerospace. Its involvement in the commercial vehicle axle sector is already notable through its joint ventures with Meritor Heavy Vehicle Systems, which was acquired by Cummins Inc. in 2022. Meanwhile, AAMCPL is a dedicated manufacturer of axles for commercial vehicles in India, making this acquisition a significant development in the automotive industry.
Given the scale and nature of this proposed transaction, the CCI has expressed initial concerns that it could have an adverse impact on competition in the market. As a result, the commission has invoked Section 29(2) of the Competition Act, 2002, requiring public disclosure of the deal and inviting stakeholders to weigh in. The details of the combination were published in leading newspapers such as Mint, The Financial Express, Hindustan Times, and The Indian Express on March 19, 2025, ensuring transparency and public awareness. Additionally, the information has been made available on both the CCI and the involved companies’ websites.
In accordance with legal provisions, the commission is now welcoming written feedback from individuals or entities that may be affected by this deal. Comments, objections, or suggestions can be submitted to the CCI’s Secretary via post at their New Delhi office or through email at secy@cci.gov.in. The deadline for submissions is ten days from the date of publication.l
