“Centre Approves ₹3,712 Crore Patna-Sasaram Corridor to Boost Bihar’s Connectivity and Growth”

RR Team, March 28, 2025March 29, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a significant step towards Bihar’s infrastructural and economic development, with the Union Cabinet approving the construction of the Patna-Sasaram corridor. This much-awaited project, worth ₹3,712.40 crore, aims to address long-standing issues of traffic congestion and poor connectivity in the region, while simultaneously boosting employment and economic opportunities for the people of Bihar.

The corridor, which will stretch over 120.10 kilometres, is designed as a four-lane access-controlled highway. It will connect Patna to Sasaram, offering smoother, faster, and safer travel for commuters and transporters alike. Currently, travel between Sasaram, Arrah, and Patna is heavily dependent on congested state highways, often resulting in journey times of up to four hours. The new corridor is expected to drastically cut down this travel time, easing the movement of goods and people.

The project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model, blending greenfield development with the upgradation of 10.6 kilometres of existing brownfield highways. It will improve connectivity in crucial areas like Arrah, Grahini, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar, and Sasaram. Moreover, the corridor will seamlessly integrate with major national highways including NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-120, ensuring enhanced access not just within Bihar but also to neighbouring states and key cities like Lucknow, Ranchi, and Varanasi.

Beyond road connectivity, the project holds far-reaching benefits. It will improve access to Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, the upcoming Bihta Airport, four major railway stations, and the Patna Inland Water Terminal. This will open new doors for trade, tourism, and economic activity in the region.

What makes this project even more impactful is its potential to generate employment. The government estimates that the construction and development work will create around 48 lakh man-days of jobs, providing much-needed livelihood opportunities to thousands of workers and their families in Bihar.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted that the corridor is part of the government’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, aiming to empower the people through improved infrastructure, job creation, and overall socio-economic progress. For the people of Bihar, this development brings hope for a future with better connectivity, reduced travel hassles, and new avenues for growth.
