Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah visited Jammu today to meet the families of martyred policemen from Jammu and Kashmir, offering a solemn tribute to their bravery and sacrifice. During the emotional interaction, he handed over appointment letters to nine family members on compassionate grounds, underscoring the government’s commitment to support those who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Shah spoke with heartfelt respect about the selfless courage of the policemen who laid down their lives protecting the country. For over three decades, Jammu and Kashmir has endured the scars of terrorism, and it is the unmatched sacrifice of these brave souls that has helped safeguard countless lives and preserve peace in the region. Their heroism, he said, stands as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come.
While acknowledging the progress made under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in countering terrorism and curbing separatist ideology, Shri Shah also reminded everyone that the mission is ongoing. He emphasized that while much has been achieved, the battle against terrorism is not over, and the government remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region.
In a deeply moving gesture, the Home Minister urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to ensure the compassionate appointment of 12-year-old Yuvraj Singh, son of martyr SGCT Jaswant Singh, once he reaches adulthood. This appeal reflects a sensitive and forward-looking approach to safeguarding the future of martyrs’ families. Shri Shah also paid homage to the family of Late Shri Shashi Bhushan Abrol, a dedicated Deputy Manager from APCO Construction Company, who lost his life during a terrorist attack on a key infrastructure project in Sonamarg. His sacrifice, made in the line of duty, was remembered with profound respect.
Shri Amit Shah expressed that no words could truly console the families, but the presence of the government and its actions stand as a symbol of enduring gratitude. He reminded the nation of its duty to carry forward the ideals of the martyrs—duty, honour, and devotion to the motherland.
The visit reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It also highlighted the continuing efforts to strengthen security and accelerate development in the region, driven by a vision of peace, prosperity, and a future built on the sacrifices of those who gave everything for the nation.
