A recent government decision to appoint Congress MP Shashi Tharoor as the head of a diplomatic delegation to the United States has ignited a fresh round of political sparring between the BJP and the Congress. The delegation is part of India’s global outreach following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and the retaliatory strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting terror camps across the border.
Tharoor, a respected parliamentarian with decades of diplomatic experience and a distinguished career at the United Nations, was chosen by the Centre to lead the outreach, intended to brief global partners on India’s response and security concerns. BJP’s Amit Malviya was quick to seize the moment, questioning why someone of Tharoor’s stature and foreign policy expertise would be excluded from his own party’s recommendation. “No one can deny Shashi Tharoor’s eloquence, his long experience as a United Nations official, and his deep insights on matters of foreign policy,” Malviya remarked, hinting at internal rifts within the Congress.
