iGOT Karmayogi Surpasses 1 Crore Users, Marking a New Era in Civil Services Capacity Building

RR Team, May 21, 2025May 22, 2025

In a proud moment for India’s civil services reform journey, the iGOT Karmayogi digital learning platform has crossed the significant milestone of one crore registered users. This remarkable achievement signals a transformative shift in how capacity building is being embraced across the country, especially within the government workforce. Spearheaded under the National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building—Mission Karmayogi—this milestone reflects not just the success of a platform but the collective aspiration of a modern, capable, and citizen-first bureaucracy.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced the milestone, underscoring how the platform has grown nearly 30-fold in just over two years—from around three lakh users in January 2023 to over one crore civil servants today. This dramatic expansion is a testament to the rapid digital adoption in public service and the government’s commitment to nurturing a future-ready workforce.

What makes this achievement truly heartening is the inclusive participation of civil servants from every corner of the country. Over 60 percent of the users come from all 36 States and Union Territories, while the rest are drawn from central ministries and departments. States like Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh have shown remarkable enthusiasm, contributing significantly to this growth. So far, over 3.1 crore learning certificates have been issued, reflecting more than 3.8 crore hours of cumulative learning—an inspiring indicator of dedication among civil servants to improve and serve better.

iGOT Karmayogi today offers a robust and diverse learning ecosystem, with over 2,400 courses available in 16 Indian languages. These courses are curated and delivered by more than 200 contributors, including central and state institutions, academic bodies, civil society organizations, and private experts. Aligned with the indigenous Karmayogi Competency Model (KCM), these courses are rooted in Indian values and tailored to the evolving needs of governance.

The platform’s growth has also been fueled by national and state-level initiatives such as the Karmayogi Saptah, a National Learning Week held in October 2024. This event alone saw over 32 lakh course completions and more than 38 lakh learning hours. Following this, many states—including Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands—organized their own learning weeks, fostering a culture of continuous self-improvement among government employees.

As the platform looks to the future, the focus remains on expanding regional language content, enhancing the quality of learning material, strengthening partnerships, and leveraging technologies like artificial intelligence to improve user experience. What stands out is that iGOT Karmayogi is not just a platform—it is a Digital Public Infrastructure. Designed to be secure, scalable, and sustainable, it is laying the foundation for a knowledge-driven public service.

India’s innovation is also gaining global recognition, with countries in the Caribbean and beyond expressing interest in adapting the iGOT Karmayogi framework to their own public administration systems. This growing international interest reinforces India’s emerging role as a leader in digital governance innovation.

At its core, iGOT Karmayogi is more than just numbers and courses—it is about enabling, empowering, and evolving a civil service that is responsive, skilled, and truly dedicated to serving the people. This milestone of one crore users is not just a statistical accomplishment; it is a reflection of hope, effort, and the quiet transformation happening every day within the heart of India’s administrative machinery.
