Govt Steps Up Kharif Fertilizer Supply Backs Natural Farming

RR Team, June 6, 2025June 6, 2025

📍New Delhi | June 5, 2025 —
Union Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a key meeting today. It focused on fertilizer availability and distribution during the Kharif season. Top officials from the Department of Fertilizers joined the meeting.

The Minister stressed two major goals — smooth supply of fertilizers and promotion of sustainable farming.

✅ Fertilizer Supply Well Managed

Fertilizer production is strong.
DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) output has touched 3.84 lakh metric tons.
This is the highest in recent months.
It will help meet the growing needs of farmers during the sowing season.

🔄 Global Tie-Ups Ensure Steady Imports

India is also importing fertilizers to fill supply gaps.
Fertilizer companies have partnered with Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Russia.
These tie-ups will ensure continuous imports throughout the year.
This will prevent any shortage in the coming months.

🚚 Faster Distribution Across States

The Minister asked for quick and smooth movement of fertilizers.
He told officials to work closely with:

  • State governments

  • Fertilizer companies

  • Railways

  • Port Authorities

This will make sure fertilizers reach farmers on time, across all states.

🌿 Push for Natural and Balanced Farming

Minister Nadda raised concern about the overuse of chemical fertilizers, especially urea.
He urged everyone to promote natural and organic methods.

He stressed the need to speed up the PM-PRANAM Scheme.
This scheme stands for:
Programme for Restoration, Awareness Generation, Nourishment, and Amelioration of Mother-Earth

Its goals are:

  • Reduce chemical use

  • Adopt natural farming

  • Use bio-fertilizers and alternatives

States that reduce chemical fertilizer use will get special rewards under this plan.

🚫 Crackdown on Black Marketing

Illegal diversion and hoarding of fertilizers is a serious issue.
Shri Nadda took a strong stance against it.

He directed officials to:

  • Strengthen laws against hoarding

  • Track fertilizer movement in real time

  • Ensure subsidies go only to real farmers

He warned against any malpractices that hurt farmer interests.

👥 Who Attended the Meeting?

The meeting was attended by senior officials:

  • Shri Rajat Kumar Mishra, Secretary

  • Ms. Anita Meshram, Additional Secretary

  • Ms. Aparna S. Sharma, Additional Secretary

  • Shri Abhay Sharma, Director (Movement)
