On June 6, 2025, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) distributed ₹300 crore as margin money subsidy to 8,794 beneficiaries. This was done under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The subsidy supports loan sanctions totaling around ₹884 crore.

The disbursement event took place virtually from the KVIC Central Office in Mumbai. KVIC Chairman Shri Manoj Kumar led the program. KVIC CEO Ms. Roop Rashi and other senior officials also participated.

Shri Manoj Kumar said this move is a strong step toward India’s self-reliance. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in driving the scheme.

He said, “Khadi and Village Industries are no longer just products. They symbolize the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. PMEGP empowers thousands of youth by promoting self-employment and entrepreneurship.”

Wide Reach Across India

The subsidy distribution covered all six zones of the country.

  • South Zone: Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry got ₹80.26 crore for 2,445 projects.

  • Central Zone: Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand received ₹91.13 crore for 2,366 projects.

  • Eastern Zone: Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura got ₹62.68 crore for 2,167 projects.

  • Northern Zone: Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Rajasthan received ₹41.80 crore for 1,320 projects.

  • Western Zone: Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa got ₹24.12 crore for 496 projects.

This campaign shows a nationwide effort to boost self-employment in both rural and urban areas.

PMEGP: A Pillar of Entrepreneurship

Since it started, PMEGP has become a key scheme for entrepreneurship in India.

By the end of the financial year 2024-25, over 10 lakh micro-enterprises have been created through the scheme. The Government has sanctioned loans worth ₹73,348 crore for these projects.

In addition, margin money subsidies of ₹27,166 crore have been given to beneficiaries so far.

Impact on Employment

PMEGP has created direct and indirect employment for more than 90 lakh people.

This makes it one of the most effective self-employment programs in the country. Its impact keeps growing every year.
