Secretary Reviews UMEED Portal & Haj 2025 in Maharashtra

RR Team, June 22, 2025June 22, 2025

UMEED Portal Implementation Gains Momentum

The Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Central Portal, launched on June 6, 2025, is being actively rolled out across the nation. It mandates the digitization of all registered waqf properties within six months. As part of this initiative, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, visited Mumbai on June 21, 2025 to review the portal’s implementation in Maharashtra. The meeting involved senior officials, the State Secretary, and the CEO of the Maharashtra State Waqf Board.

Focus on State Participation and Feedback

Dr. Kumar emphasized that rules supporting the statutory provisions of the UMEED Act will be notified soon. He urged state authorities to take proactive steps and submit suggestions to enhance the process.

During the interaction, the CEO of the Waqf Board requested modifications to leasing norms for waqf properties. Dr. Kumar assured that the Ministry would sympathetically examine these proposals to support better waqf property management.

Review of PMJVK Projects in Maharashtra

The Secretary also conducted a review of projects under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK). He instructed state officials to submit all pending proposals within a week so that necessary actions can be taken promptly by the Ministry.

Success of Haj 2025 Commended

Dr. Kumar also met with the Haj Committee of India (HCoI) in Mumbai and congratulated them for the smooth and efficient conduct of Haj 2025. He acknowledged the excellent coordination between various agencies, including the Saudi government, Indian deputationists, and local authorities.

He noted that Haj 2025 saw the lowest number of health-related incidents and deaths among Indian pilgrims. A key contributor was the Haj Suvidha App, which offered real-time assistance and significantly improved the on-ground experience for pilgrims.

Way Forward for Haj 2026

Dr. Kumar affirmed that the positive takeaways from this year’s operations will be used to improve Haj 2026 planning and logistics. He reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering a dignified, efficient, and tech-enabled Haj experience for Indian Muslims.

Empowering Through Digital Governance

The Ministry of Minority Affairs continues its mission to bring transparency and efficiency to waqf property management and religious pilgrimages. With initiatives like UMEED Portal and the Haj Suvidha App, the Ministry is working toward better accountability and citizen-friendly services for India’s minorities.
