NMDC Offers Free Nursing, MedTech Courses for Tribals

RR Team, June 27, 2025June 27, 2025

NMDC Launches Free Nursing & MedTech Courses for Tribals

NMDC Limited, India’s largest iron ore producer, has opened doors for tribal youth in Chhattisgarh through two life-changing education initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. These fully sponsored programs aim to empower marginalized communities with quality healthcare education and professional skills.

Balika Shiksha Yojana: Free Nursing Courses for ST Girls

Under the Balika Shiksha Yojana, NMDC is offering 100% free education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) girls from districts like Bastar, Dantewada, Sukma, Kondagaon, Bijapur, and Narayanpur.

This initiative provides admissions into:

  • B.Sc. Nursing (4 years) – 110 seats
  • GNM – General Nursing & Midwifery (3 years) – 90 seats

The girls will study at premier institutes such as Apollo School of Nursing, Yashoda School of Nursing, and KIMS College of Nursing in Hyderabad. The program covers tuition fees, hostel stay, and other academic expenses, with an estimated investment of ₹12–15 lakh per student.

To be eligible, the applicant’s family income must be below ₹72,000 annually. Applications close on June 28, 2025.

Medical Technology Program: For Underprivileged Tribal Youth

NMDC has also partnered with Apollo University, Chittoor to launch a Medical Technology Program for tribal students—both boys and girls—from Dantewada and Bastar.

This fully sponsored program offers 90 seats, with 60% reserved for girls and 40% for boys. It provides high-demand B.Sc. degrees in:

  • Emergency Medical Technology
  • Medical Lab Technology
  • Anaesthesiology & OT Technician
  • Imaging Technology
  • Physician Assistant
  • Renal Dialysis Technology

The total investment per student is approximately ₹12–15 lakh, which includes complete education, accommodation, and learning resources. The last date to apply is June 30, 2025.

Long-Term Impact on Chhattisgarh’s Youth

NMDC’s mining operations have driven Chhattisgarh’s development for over six decades. These educational programs represent a bold step towards bridging opportunity gaps in remote tribal regions.

By focusing on healthcare education, the programs not only improve individual lives but also strengthen community healthcare systems. In turn, the state benefits from a skilled, locally sourced healthcare workforce.

How to Apply

Eligible candidates can apply through their local district offices or designated education centers supported by NMDC. Due to limited seats, early applications are encouraged.

For more information and to access application forms, visit the official NMDC website or contact your local tribal welfare office.

Conclusion

NMDC’s Balika Shiksha Yojana and Medical Technology Program are more than CSR projects—they are gateways to a better future. These initiatives create life-changing opportunities for tribal youth by offering free, quality education in high-demand fields.

With just days left before the deadlines, families and community leaders must act swiftly. The next generation of tribal doctors, nurses, and technicians may already be among us—waiting for this very chance.
