PM Modi’s 5-Nation Diplomatic Tour Begins July 2

RR Team, July 1, 2025

New Delhi, July 1, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a significant five-nation diplomatic tour starting July 2, covering Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. This tour will be his longest international visit since taking office in 2014.

Tour Overview and Strategic Importance

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit aims to deepen India’s engagement with South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. Each stop will focus on different aspects of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including trade, technology, digital payments, defense, and global security.

Country-Wise Agenda

🇬🇭 Ghana

This is Modi’s first visit to Ghana and the first by any Indian PM in over 30 years. Key highlights include supporting a vaccine hub initiative and addressing the Ghanaian Parliament.

🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago

Invited by PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Modi’s visit will mark the first Indian PM visit in 25 years. He will address a joint session of the Parliament and discuss diaspora ties and renewable energy partnerships.

🇦🇷 Argentina

In Buenos Aires, PM Modi will meet President Javier Milei. Talks will cover defense cooperation, agriculture, mining, energy, and trade. Strengthening bilateral investment will be a top priority.

🇧🇷 Brazil (BRICS Summit)

PM Modi will attend the 17th BRICS 2025 Summit in Brazil. The summit will focus on counter-terrorism—especially in light of the recent Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. A joint leaders’ declaration is expected to denounce terrorism strongly.

🇳🇦 Namibia

Modi’s last stop will be Namibia—his first visit there and the first by an Indian PM in 27 years. He will meet President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and address the Parliament. A major highlight will be a bilateral agreement to launch India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Namibia, making it the 8th country to adopt this Indian innovation.

Digital Diplomacy & Global Presence

The tour showcases India’s growing global influence, especially through digital initiatives like UPI. With UPI already active in France, Singapore, UAE, Bhutan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Sri Lanka, Namibia’s inclusion signifies expanding Indian fintech leadership.

Conclusion

PM Modi’s five-nation trip is not just historic in length, but also in strategic depth. From BRICS diplomacy to fintech integration, the tour reflects India’s vision of becoming a global partner for development and security. It also reinforces India’s soft power through culture, technology, and shared democratic values.
