Hyderabad Braces for Heavy Rain Till July 18

RR Team, July 17, 2025July 17, 2025

Hyderabad is in for a wet spell. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for July 17 and 18, warning of heavy rains and thunderstorms in the city and surrounding districts.

IMD’s Sudden Yellow Alert for Hyderabad

Initially, Hyderabad was not included in the warning list. But as cloud systems developed rapidly over Telangana, IMD updated its forecast early on Thursday, extending the alert to Hyderabad.

This change has caught the attention of local residents and weather watchers alike. With monsoon activity intensifying, the alert is a timely reminder to take precautions.

Two Rounds of Heavy Rain Forecasted

According to popular Telangana weatherman T. Balaji, Hyderabad can expect **two major spells** of rainfall today:

  • Round 1: Afternoon to evening – scattered but intense thunderstorms across Central, West, and South Telangana. Hyderabad will get a share of this downpour.
  • Round 2: Night to early morning – widespread heavy rain likely in Hyderabad, especially South, East, and Central regions of Telangana.

“The overnight period is the main rain window for Hyderabad,” Balaji added in his weather update on social media.

Temperature Drops Across Telangana

As rainfall increases, temperatures are dipping across the state. Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society shows:

  • Adilabad recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 29.9°C.
  • Hyderabad’s Golkonda area saw a cooler-than-usual max temperature of 31.7°C.

This cooling trend is expected to continue as heavy monsoon clouds dominate the skies over Telangana.

Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected

IMD has also warned of gusty winds accompanying the thunderstorms. Residents are advised to avoid open areas, secure loose items on balconies, and stay indoors when lightning activity begins.

Important Advisory: Avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain hours. Keep emergency contacts and flashlights handy. Stay updated through official weather apps and IMD bulletins.

Widespread Impact Across Telangana

The yellow alert isn’t limited to Hyderabad. Several other Telangana districts are also under watch:

  • Adilabad
  • Nizamabad
  • Karimnagar
  • Mahbubnagar
  • Rangareddy

Farmers in these areas are urged to secure crops and avoid working in open fields during the storms. Urban areas may also face waterlogging in low-lying zones, especially in GHMC limits.

What Residents Should Do

With the weekend approaching, residents should plan ahead. Here are some tips to stay safe during the alert:

  • Check weather updates before stepping out.
  • Avoid underpasses and flooded roads.
  • Stay indoors during lightning activity.
  • Charge mobile phones and backup devices.
  • Store drinking water in advance.

Final Thoughts

The sudden shift in Hyderabad’s weather alert shows how unpredictable monsoons can be. But with timely action from IMD and accurate updates from independent meteorologists like T. Balaji, citizens can stay informed and prepared.

As yellow alerts remain active till July 18, it’s wise to stay weather-aware and rain-ready. Keep an eye on local news channels and the official IMD website for live updates.
