PMGSY-III Boosts Rural Roads with 1.22 Lakh KM Upgraded

RR Team, July 30, 2025July 29, 2025

Revolutionizing Rural Connectivity

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Phase-III (PMGSY-III) is transforming India’s village infrastructure. Since its launch, the scheme has sanctioned the upgradation of 1,22,550 km of rural roads.Out of this, an impressive 98,670 km has already been completed, as reported by the Ministry of Rural Development.

Why PMGSY-III Matters

Rural connectivity plays a crucial role in improving access to healthcare, education, and employment. PMGSY-III directly addresses these needs by linking villages to markets, hospitals, and schools.

This road infrastructure is a catalyst for economic growth and social development in remote areas.

Building More Than Roads

In addition to roads, 2,406 bridges have been completed under PMGSY-III. These structures ensure all-weather access and safe travel for rural residents.

Bridges are often the missing links in remote hilly and flood-prone regions, and their construction is improving lives across India.

PMGSY: A Legacy of Growth

Since its inception in 2000, PMGSY has been a flagship program for rural development. Earlier phases focused on new road construction, while Phase-III targets road upgradation and widening of existing routes.

States like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Odisha have reported high progress under the current phase.

What Lies Ahead

With the remaining work steadily progressing, PMGSY-III is on track to meet its targets by 2026. The scheme’s success reflects the government’s commitment to #RuralEmpowerment and #InfrastructureDevelopment.

The focus remains on building quality roads, ensuring maintenance, and empowering local communities through better access and mobility.

Government Commitment

Union Minister for Rural Development reiterated in the Lok Sabha that there has been no reduction in the Budget Estimates for PMGSY in 2025-26. This reaffirms the government’s sustained focus on strengthening rural India.

Conclusion

PMGSY-III is not just about roads and bridges—it’s about empowering the last mile. With every kilometre built, the scheme brings opportunity closer to the doorstep of rural Indians.

India’s villages are on the move, connected by a growing network of durable roads and resilient bridges.
