PM Modi to Lead 79th Independence Day Celebrations

RR Team, August 14, 2025August 13, 2025
India will celebrate its 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi leading the ceremony from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. This year, the celebrations are themed ‘Naya Bharat’, reflecting the nation’s progress toward a prosperous, secure, and bold future. The Prime Minister will unfurl the National Flag and address the nation from the ramparts, highlighting India’s journey toward Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Grand Ceremony at Red Fort

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister will be received by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh. Lt Gen Bhavnish Kumar, GoC Delhi Area, will escort the Prime Minister to the Saluting Base, where a combined Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police Guard of Honour will present the ceremonial salute.

The Guard of Honour consists of 96 personnel and is commanded by Wing Commander AS Sekhon, with Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police contingents led by senior officers. Following the inspection, the Prime Minister will proceed to the ramparts, escorted by top military officials, to hoist the National Flag.

Flag Hoisting and Salute

Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist in hoisting the National Flag, synchronized with the 21-Gun Salute by the 1721 Field Battery using indigenous 105mm Light Field Guns. The National Flag Guard, comprising 128 personnel, will present the Rashtriya Salute. The Air Force band, including 11 Agniveer Vayu musicians, will play the National Anthem during the ceremony.

Following the hoisting, two Mi-17 helicopters will shower flower petals over the venue, symbolizing the success of Operation Sindoor. The floral arrangements and invitation cards also carry the Operation Sindoor logo and images of the Chenab Bridge, representing the rise of Naya Bharat.

Formation of ‘Naya Bharat’

After the flag hoisting, the Prime Minister will address the nation. A total of 2,500 cadets from the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and ‘My Bharat’ volunteers will form the ‘Naya Bharat’ logo on Gyanpath while singing the National Anthem. The formation signifies India’s collective spirit and drive toward progress.

Special Guests and Public Participation

Approximately 5,000 guests, including Special Olympics athletes, Khelo India Para Games gold medalists, exemplary farmers, young authors, entrepreneurs under various government schemes, and tribal children from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, will witness the celebrations. Over 1,500 individuals from across India in traditional attire will also participate.

For public convenience, 25 cloakrooms have been installed at 12 locations. Volunteers from ‘My Bharat’ and NCC will assist visitors, while additional car parking and wheelchair facilities are available. Metro services will operate from 4 AM to facilitate easy access.

Competitions and Performances

Leading up to Independence Day, the Ministry of Defence and MyGov conducted quizzes, painting, essay, and reel competitions, with winners invited to participate in the celebrations. Around 1,000 winners will witness the ceremony firsthand.

Military bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, NCC, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, BSF, IDS, RPF, and Assam Rifles will perform at over 140 locations nationwide in the evening to promote patriotic fervor and commemorate Operation Sindoor.
