Bihar SIR 2025: Draft Electoral Roll Update

RR Team, August 14, 2025August 14, 2025
The Bihar State Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025 daily bulletin reports significant activity in the draft electoral roll from 1 August to 13 August 2025. A total of 1,60,813 claims and objections were received from political parties and none have been disposed yet, pending verification and compliance with election rules.
The process involves scrutiny of claims and objections by the Election Returning Officers (EROs) and Assistant EROs (AEROs), ensuring that no names are removed without proper enquiry and a speaking order. This step guarantees transparency and fairness in voter registration.

Political Parties’ Claims and Objections

National and state parties submitted claims regarding the draft roll:

  • Bharatiya Janata Party: 53,338 claims
  • Indian National Congress: 17,549 claims
  • Rashtriya Janata Dal: 47,506 claims
  • Other parties combined: 42,420 claims

Despite the large number of submissions, no claims have been disposed of yet. The election authorities have seven days after verification to act on the submissions, ensuring that each claim receives proper attention.

Direct Objections from Electors

A total of 17,665 claims and objections were received directly from electors. These include requests for inclusion of eligible voters and exclusion of ineligible voters. After seven days of verification, only 454 objections were disposed of as per standard procedures.

The system ensures that eligible citizens are registered to vote while preventing ineligible entries from remaining on the electoral roll. The rules provide a fair opportunity for all electors to raise concerns and have them addressed.

New Voter Registrations

The bulletin also reports 74,525 forms received from new electors who have attained the age of 18 or above. This includes six forms submitted via political parties’ claims. No forms have been disposed of yet, pending verification of eligibility documents.

This influx of new voters reflects the ongoing engagement of young citizens in Bihar’s democratic process. The revision exercise ensures that the electoral roll remains up-to-date ahead of upcoming elections.

Rules and Compliance

As per SIR guidelines, claims and objections must be disposed of by the concerned ERO or AERO only after seven days of verification. No name can be deleted from the draft list published on 1 August 2025 without issuing a speaking order, conducting an enquiry, and providing a fair opportunity to the concerned individual.

This procedure safeguards the integrity of Bihar’s electoral roll, ensuring that all eligible citizens have the right to vote and participate in the democratic process.
