PM Modi to Inaugurate ₹11,000 Cr Highway Projects in Delhi

RR Team, August 17, 2025
New Delhi, August 17, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two landmark highway projects in the national capital on August 17, marking a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development drive. The projects, worth nearly ₹11,000 crore, include the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). The inauguration ceremony will take place in Rohini, where the Prime Minister will also address the gathering.

Transforming Connectivity in Delhi-NCR

The projects are part of the government’s broader strategy to decongest Delhi and improve mobility across the National Capital Region. Designed to cut travel time, ease bottlenecks, and facilitate seamless movement of people and goods, the new highways will enhance urban infrastructure and boost economic activity in the NCR.

Officials said these projects align with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building world-class infrastructure that improves both the ease of living and the ease of doing business.

Dwarka Expressway: Delhi Section

The 10.1-km Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway has been constructed at a cost of ₹5,360 crore. Divided into two packages, it connects Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 and then extends up to the Delhi-Haryana border.

  • Package I: 5.9 km from Shiv Murti intersection to the Road Under Bridge (RUB) at Dwarka Sector-21.
  • Package II: 4.2 km from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to the Delhi-Haryana border, directly linking to UER-II.

The stretch offers multimodal connectivity with key urban infrastructure, linking Yashobhoomi convention centre, the DMRC Blue and Orange metro lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station, and the Dwarka cluster bus depot. The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, 19 km long, was earlier inaugurated by the Prime Minister in March 2024.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

Alongside, the Prime Minister will also open the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, developed at a cost of approximately ₹5,580 crore. The project includes vital new links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, strengthening regional connectivity.

By diverting traffic away from congested roads such as the Inner Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09, the UER-II will significantly decongest Delhi’s traffic network. It will also streamline goods movement in the NCR, improving industrial linkages and benefiting commuters and businesses alike.

Boost for NCR Development

The combined impact of the Dwarka Expressway and UER-II is expected to redefine Delhi’s transport landscape. The projects are not just about smoother rides but also about enabling growth corridors, reducing fuel consumption, and curbing vehicular emissions.

With direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, industries in these hubs are likely to experience faster connectivity to markets, reducing logistics costs. For residents, the new highways promise shorter travel times and less congestion on city roads.

Government’s Focus on Infrastructure

The inauguration of these projects comes at a time when the Union government has been consistently prioritizing large-scale infrastructure investments under the Bharatmala Pariyojana and National Infrastructure Pipeline. Roads and expressways, being the backbone of economic activity, remain a central pillar of this development strategy.
