Details of the Aunta-Simaria Bridge
The 8.15 km-long Aunta-Simaria bridge was built at an estimated cost of Rs 1,871 crore. It connects Aunta Ghat in Mokama with Simaria in Begusarai, running parallel to the older Rajendra Setu. Currently, one lane is operational, but from August 22, the second lane will open, facilitating smoother traffic flow.
Once fully operational, the bridge is expected to drastically reduce travel time across northern and southern Bihar. The existing Rajendra Setu allows only one-way traffic and restricts heavy vehicles, creating significant delays. The new bridge will also bolster connectivity to northeastern states, enhancing trade and mobility.
The project was initially announced by PM Modi in 2015 as part of a special development package for Bihar, with its foundation stone laid in 2017.
Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama Road and Regional Impact
The 44.60 km Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama four-lane road, built at Rs 1,899 crore, will also be inaugurated. Along with the already operational Patna-Bakhtiyarpur stretch, it ensures seamless travel from Patna to Khagaria via Mokama and Begusarai.
Officials expect the road and bridge to reduce long traffic jams and improve connectivity for residents of Purnia, Bhagalpur, and other districts traveling to Patna. The project also strengthens Bihar’s infrastructure link with northeastern India, providing an economic boost.
Development Milestones and Public Benefits
These projects are part of a broader strategy to modernize Bihar’s transport network. By connecting key districts with multi-lane roads and bridges, authorities aim to improve trade, travel, and regional growth.
The government has highlighted that improved infrastructure will benefit commuters, facilitate movement of goods, and generate employment opportunities during and post-construction.
