Amit Shah Slams Kerala Model, Pushes Politics of Performance

RR Team, August 23, 2025August 23, 2025

Amit Shah Targets Kerala Model, Bats for Politics of Performance

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah addressed the Manorama News Conclave 2025 in Kochi on Friday, where he delivered a sharp critique of Kerala’s development model and pitched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance as an era of “politics of performance” over casteism, dynasty, and appeasement.

Shah said that since 2014, India has witnessed stability, long-term policy planning, and systemic reforms that have pushed the economy into the top four globally. He contrasted this with earlier decades, when instability and corruption limited growth and weakened governance.

Kerala’s Development Model Under Fire

The Home Minister accused Kerala’s Left-led government of adhering to an “apathetic” ideological model that has left the state stagnant despite its immense potential. He highlighted Kerala’s paradox of 100% literacy but high unemployment, saying that opportunities in IT, semiconductor, ports, and knowledge industries had been ignored in favor of cadre politics.

Shah further alleged that vote-bank politics compromised law and order, pointing to the rise of extremist organizations like the Popular Front of India (PFI). He asked why the Kerala government failed to act against PFI in time, adding that without Modi’s leadership, the group may never have been banned nationwide.

Performance-Oriented Politics

Shah praised Modi’s governance model as one free from caste, dynasty, and appeasement. He said systemic corruption has been eliminated, the armed forces modernized, and decisive security responses delivered against cross-border terror attempts — from surgical strikes to the recent “Operation Sindoor” in Pakistan-occupied territories.

“Until India becomes great, we shall not rest,” Shah declared, asserting that by 2047, India would be a global leader. He noted achievements such as GST implementation, infrastructure push, and major disaster relief support. Kerala alone, he said, received ₹5,100 crore for disaster management under Modi, compared to just ₹1,342 crore in the previous decade.

Delimitation and Southern States

Addressing concerns from Tamil Nadu and other southern states on the upcoming delimitation exercise, Shah reassured voters that “no injustice will be done.” He explained that the Census will be completed in 2027, after which the Delimitation Act would be implemented fairly.

He accused Tamil Nadu’s ruling party of raising false fears to distract citizens from corruption and dynastic ambitions, reiterating that delimitation would be handled with equity.

Internal Security and National Reforms

Shah claimed a 70% drop in violent incidents and security force deaths across Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, and Left-wing extremism areas. He said that more than 20 peace agreements have been signed in the Northeast, bringing 10,000 insurgents back into the mainstream.

He also spoke about the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and related laws, calling them the most significant justice reforms of the 21st century. With digital hearings, online appearances, and a mandate to conclude cases within three years of FIRs, Shah argued that India would soon have the most modern criminal justice system in the world.

Modi as a National Example

In a personal note, Shah described Prime Minister Modi as “an ideal example of service to the nation,” lauding his decision to renounce family life for politics. He said Modi considers the 140 crore people of India as his family and has redefined public life by staying free from dynastic pressures.
