Lok Sabha Speaker to Lead India at 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference
68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), scheduled to take place in Bridgetown, Barbados, from
5 to 12 October 2025. The delegation will include the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, presiding officers, and
secretaries from 29 state and union territory legislatures, representing the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region.
Preparations Underway
Ahead of the international gathering, Shri Birla chaired an inter-ministerial meeting in New Delhi where senior officers
briefed the delegation about conference events. The preparatory meeting aimed at aligning India’s participation with the
conference’s agenda and ensuring effective representation across sessions.
India’s Role at the Conference
Shri Birla will address the General Assembly of the CPC on the theme “The Commonwealth: A Global Partner.”
His address will highlight India’s contributions to strengthening democracy, multilateral cooperation, and sustainable
development within the Commonwealth framework.
Indian delegates will actively engage in all seven thematic workshops, which will cover topics such as
strengthening democratic institutions, leveraging digital transformation, preparing for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026,
tackling climate change, financial transparency, protecting the separation of powers, and reinforcing good governance.

Additionally, a Youth Roundtable will deliberate on “Staying Safe and Free to Thrive: Empowering Young People to Overcome Modern Challenges”,
addressing issues like gang violence and cyber-bullying.

bringing together lawmakers from across member nations. For India, active participation not only reinforces its
commitment to democratic values but also provides a platform to share experiences, solutions, and innovations with
global partners.
