Angikaar 2025 Campaign Launched to Boost PMAY-U 2.0

RR Team, September 6, 2025September 6, 2025
The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, on Thursday launched Angikaar 2025, a nationwide outreach campaign designed to accelerate the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The event, held in New Delhi, was also attended by Shri Tokhan Sahu, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, and senior ministry officials.

Running from September 6 to October 31, 2025, Angikaar 2025 seeks to bridge the last-mile gap in urban housing delivery by creating widespread awareness, expediting application verification, and ensuring faster completion of sanctioned homes. The initiative will cover over 5,000 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across India.

Focus on Last-Mile Delivery

Angikaar 2025 aims to fast-track the completion of pending housing projects under PMAY-U. So far, 120 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the scheme, with 94.11 lakh already completed and handed over to beneficiaries. The new campaign will push for the completion of the remaining houses while extending support to new applicants.

Speaking at the launch, Shri Manohar Lal stressed that the government’s priority is to ensure “Housing for All” by providing financial and infrastructural support to urban families. The revamped PMAY-U 2.0, introduced in September 2024, targets an additional one crore urban families, offering up to ₹2.5 lakh in financial assistance for constructing or purchasing pucca houses.

Integration with Other Schemes

Another major component of Angikaar 2025 is its integration with allied welfare programs. Beneficiaries will also gain access to the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, promoting affordable solar power for urban households. Additionally, the campaign will raise awareness about the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH), a financial safety net for low-income beneficiaries.

Officials said the campaign would employ door-to-door outreach, community mobilization, and events such as camps, loan melas, and cultural activities to involve citizens in the Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation) movement.

Upcoming Events and Celebrations

As part of Angikaar 2025, September 17 will mark PMAY-U Awas Diwas, celebrating one year since the launch of PMAY-U 2.0. A flagship event titled PM Awas Mela – Shehri will be organized in two phases—first from September 17 to 27, and later between October 16 and 31. These events will be held at district headquarters and municipal corporation levels in major cities.

The mela will act as a one-stop platform for beneficiaries to access services, understand scheme benefits, and engage with government representatives. States and ULBs will also conduct ward-level and city-level activities to sustain momentum and maximize public participation.

Strengthening the PMAY-U Vision

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Angikaar 2025 underscores the Centre’s commitment to ensure inclusive development and welfare delivery. By emphasizing convergence with other government programs and prioritizing vulnerable groups, the initiative seeks to make urban housing more accessible, affordable, and sustainable.

Following the launch, Shri Kuldip Narayan, Joint Secretary and Mission Director, Housing for All, chaired a strategy meeting with state and UT officials to finalize methods for effective ground-level execution.

With this campaign, the government hopes to bring India closer to its ambitious goal of universal urban housing by 2030.
