Achievements of Special Campaign 4.0
Under the Ministry of Coal, Special Campaign 4.0 achieved impressive results across Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and field offices. More than 78.46 lakh square feet of space was cleaned, and over 9,865 metric tons of scrap was responsibly disposed, generating ₹38.27 crores in revenue.
According to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), the Ministry of Coal was the top performer in space freed and secured the fourth position in revenue earned among all government ministries and departments. The campaign also recorded 100% disposal of public grievances and PMO references, with 71,632 files reviewed and 69,227 files weeded out. Extensive public outreach included 2,163 tweets, 1,137 press releases, and 61 PIB statements.
Innovative Initiatives During SC 4.0
The campaign introduced several innovative measures, including:
- AI Bins by CIL for efficient waste segregation and plastic disposal.
- Waste to Art Projects: CMPDIL created a “Golden Deer and Fawn” sculpture, while BCCL crafted a 7-foot Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose statue from scrap.
- Efficient Space Management: BCCL converted unused areas into recreational facilities such as a table tennis court, enhancing employee well-being.
Extended Achievements (Nov 2024 – Aug 2025)
Between November 2024 and August 2025, the Ministry and its PSUs continued to excel, cleaning 12.18 lakh square feet of space and disposing over 10,503 metric tons of scrap, generating revenue of ₹55.918 crores. Freed spaces were repurposed for plantations, horticulture, beautification, office seating, parking, and storage, showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability and workplace enhancement.
Preparations for Special Campaign 5.0
The Ministry of Coal organized preparatory meetings chaired by JS(Coord) along with senior and nodal officers from CIL, its subsidiaries, NLCIL, CCO, and CMPFO on 26th August and 4th September 2025. The first meeting highlighted SC 4.0 achievements and briefed nodal officers on planned activities for SC 5.0. The second meeting emphasized adherence to campaign timelines and brainstorming innovative initiatives for the upcoming campaign.
Special Campaign 5.0 is expected to further strengthen India’s commitment to environmental responsibility, e-waste management, and employee-centric workspace improvements.
