AI and Digital Transformation
Shri Joshi emphasized NTH’s focus on modernization through digital solutions. The newly introduced Laboratory Data Automation System (LDAS) aims to reduce manual errors, accelerate testing, and enhance operational efficiency. A dedicated mobile application will allow industries and consumers to access NTH services seamlessly, streamlining interactions with stakeholders.
Record Growth and Recognition
NTH has shown strong performance in recent years, with a 60.36% increase in sample testing—45,926 samples tested in 2024–25—and a 49.89% revenue growth, reaching ₹44.45 crore. For the first time, NTH introduced annual awards recognizing outstanding contributions from its scientists, staff, and high-value client organizations, including BIS Kolkata, Kansai Nerolac Paints, Tamil Nadu Textbook & Educational Services, PHED Rajasthan, UP Jal Jeevan Mission, and NBCC India Limited.
New Testing Facilities
The Minister inaugurated state-of-the-art laboratories, including:
- Electric Vehicle Testing Facility, Kolkata: Ensures safety, efficiency, and competitiveness of EV batteries, charging systems, and vehicles.
- Drone Testing Facility, Ghaziabad: Provides certification for drones used in defense, agriculture, logistics, and surveillance. Shri Joshi also issued the first drone certificates to two Indian manufacturers.
- Chemical Testing Laboratory, Ghaziabad: Supports chemical safety, industrial materials testing, environmental monitoring, and future organic food testing for farmers and exporters.
Strategic Collaborations
NTH signed several MoUs to strengthen industry-academia-government partnerships, including:
- CIPET – for plastics and petrochemical testing.
- NISE & NIWE – to advance solar panel, wind turbine, and renewable energy equipment certification.
- PFC – to promote quality-driven infrastructure financing.
- Casagrand – for quality assurance in real estate and sustainable construction.
- Jaipur University – to enhance research collaboration, skill development, and knowledge exchange.
These collaborations aim to position NTH as a national hub for innovation, quality assurance, and technological advancement.
Vision for a Future-Ready India
Shri Joshi referenced Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” initiative, stressing the importance of quality without environmental compromise. He underscored India’s trajectory toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy and the need for world-class testing infrastructure to support this growth.
He also highlighted the retail inflation rate of 1.55% in July 2025, the lowest in nearly eight years, as an indicator of India’s stable economic environment.

Established in 1911 as the Government Test House in Kolkata, NTH has grown into India’s oldest and most trusted testing, certification, and quality assurance institution. Its historical association with eminent scientists like Sir C.V. Raman, Dr. S. Venkateswaran, Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, and Dr. Krishnan underscores its longstanding contribution to national scientific development.
The 114-year journey of NTH reflects its commitment to quality, innovation, and a safer, self-reliant India.
