‘One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team’
For the first time, the Rabi Conference is being held over two days on the initiative of Shri Chouhan. The theme “One Nation – One Agriculture – One Team” underlines the need for closer coordination between the Centre, states, agricultural universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras, and farmer organisations to boost productivity and ensure food security.
Agriculture Growth at 3.7 Percent
In his keynote address, Shri Chouhan said India’s agriculture sector is currently growing at 3.7 percent, the fastest in the world. He credited this achievement to the hard work of farmers, innovative scientists, and the government’s farmer-friendly policies. “There will be no shortage of food grains, fruits, or vegetables. Together, we will make India the food basket of the world,” he assured.
Crackdown on Fake Farm Inputs
The Minister announced that strict action will be taken against those involved in the sale of spurious fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides. Only bio-stimulants meeting established benchmarks will be allowed in the market. “We will not let farmers be exploited,” Shri Chouhan said, urging officers to work with dedication at the grassroots to ensure farmers get genuine, quality inputs.
Crop Insurance and Climate Challenges
Highlighting the unpredictability of weather patterns, the Minister stressed the need to expand coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. He urged officials to ensure more farmers are protected under crop insurance schemes. “Weather is no longer predictable. Crop insurance is essential to protect farmers from losses,” he said.
Focus on Research and Ground-Level Solutions
Shri Chouhan called on agricultural research institutions to shift focus from academic publications to real-world problem-solving for farmers. He announced that the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan would be relaunched in October with active participation from both Centre and state governments. He also directed swift relief work in flood-affected areas to support farmers facing natural disasters.
Inaugural Session and Participation
The inaugural session also featured remarks by Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, who highlighted that six breakout sessions are being conducted to discuss crop planning, productivity targets, and policy strategies. ICAR Director General Dr. M. L. Jat and Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena were present during the event.
The conference brings together senior officials from the Centre and states, scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), agricultural experts, and farmer representatives. The platform will facilitate deliberations on production targets and policy measures for the Rabi 2025–26 season.
With a focus on farmer welfare, technology adoption, and accountability, the Rabi Abhiyan 2025 aims to set the tone for India’s agricultural roadmap over the next decade.
