Perplexity’s Comet AI Browser Expands to Pro Users in India

RR Team, September 23, 2025September 23, 2025
Perplexity has expanded access to its AI-powered Comet browser in India, making it available to all Pro subscribers. Initially limited to Max users after its July launch, the browser is now accessible to a wider base, signaling the company’s push to grow its footprint in one of the world’s largest internet markets.

What is Comet?

Comet is an AI-driven browser designed to function as both a personal assistant and a productivity partner. It allows users to enter prompts via text or voice to perform everyday tasks. From online shopping and scheduling meetings to summarizing lengthy articles and analyzing PDFs, Comet integrates multiple tools into a single browsing experience.

The browser highlights Perplexity’s growing emphasis on agentic AI capabilities, where software can proactively assist with complex digital tasks rather than just answer queries.

Device Availability in India

Currently, Comet is available for macOS and Windows users in India. A mobile version is in progress, with the Android app only open for pre-registration on the Play Store. This rollout strategy indicates Perplexity’s focus on building a strong desktop user base before moving aggressively into the mobile segment.

Pricing and Offers

The Perplexity Pro subscription costs ₹17,000 annually. However, the company has partnered with Airtel to offer the plan free of charge to its prepaid, postpaid, Wi-Fi, and DTH customers. Additionally, Perplexity has collaborated with PayPal to extend a free 12-month subscription to eligible users, expanding affordability for Indian consumers.

Why It Matters

With AI-driven tools increasingly integrated into daily life, Comet’s arrival in India aligns with rising demand for smarter productivity solutions. Indian netizens have already called the browser “indispensable,” reflecting strong early traction. By lowering costs through partnerships and widening access, Perplexity is betting on rapid adoption across a tech-savvy population.

The launch also places Perplexity in direct competition with established global players experimenting with AI-enhanced browsers, further intensifying the AI race in consumer tech.

Future Outlook

Experts suggest that if Comet gains significant traction among Indian users, Perplexity may expand into enterprise solutions and mobile integrations more aggressively. With India serving as both a testing ground and a growth hub, the success of Comet here could define the company’s global AI strategy in the coming years.
