Govt to Launch e-NAM 2.0 to Boost Inter-State Farm Trade

RR Team, September 24, 2025September 24, 2025
The Indian government is preparing to launch a revamped version of the electronic National Agriculture Market, e-NAM 2.0, aimed at enhancing inter-state and inter-mandi trade of agricultural commodities. The upgraded platform promises automated bidding, real-time demand-supply data, logistics, assaying, and fintech services to improve market efficiency and farmer incomes.

Enhanced Features for Farmers and Traders

According to officials, the new e-NAM 2.0 will integrate services previously unavailable on the platform, including assaying and transportation facilities through private parties in physical mandis. This will streamline inter-state trade in crops, fruits, and vegetables, reduce food wastage, and ensure farmers receive better prices by minimizing intermediaries.

Automated bidding and QR-based lot tracking, along with timely notifications, will further simplify trade processes. The platform is being designed to handle high volumes of commodities without slowing down during peak procurement seasons.

Expanding Digital Market Access

Since its launch in April 2016, e-NAM has digitally integrated over 1,500 wholesale markets. However, inter-state trade has remained limited. In FY 2024-25, e-NAM facilitated a total turnover of Rs 80,262 crore, with inter-state trade accounting for a small portion of Rs 21 crore. Inter-mandi trade stood at Rs 6,230 crore since inception.

Officials emphasize that e-NAM 2.0 aims to bridge logistical gaps, enable faster trade, and reduce wastage. The platform currently hosts 1,522 mandis across 27 states and union territories, including Tamil Nadu (213), Rajasthan (173), Gujarat (144), Maharashtra (133), Uttar Pradesh (162), and Haryana (108).

Farmer Participation and Registration

Over 17.94 million farmers, 4,557 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), 269,688 traders, and 1,17,590 commission agents are registered on e-NAM. Currently, 231 agricultural, horticultural, and other commodities are available for online e-auction, as notified by respective state governments.

The government expects that by expanding inter-state trade and providing integrated digital services, e-NAM 2.0 will significantly enhance farmer income, improve price discovery, and strengthen the national agri-market ecosystem. The platform is expected to be rolled out within a few months.

Government Support and Policy Alignment

The rollout aligns with broader government initiatives to modernize agriculture markets, reduce wastage, and boost farmer income. [Press Information Bureau (PIB)](https://pib.gov.in/) notes that digitalization of agri-markets is central to India’s farm reforms, ensuring transparency and efficiency in trading systems.

By enabling inter-state commerce and reducing dependency on intermediaries, e-NAM 2.0 is expected to transform agricultural trade, making it more accessible and profitable for farmers across India.
