Tourism as a Catalyst for Sustainable Growth
Shri Suman Bery stressed that tourism is a powerful tool for economic transformation, environmental stewardship, and social inclusion. “Sustainable tourism can preserve biodiversity while generating livelihoods. India must embed sustainability at the core of its tourism strategy,” he stated. He emphasized the need for convergence across transport, urban development, digital technology, and infrastructure to enhance connectivity and spread benefits beyond major tourist hubs.
Minister of State Shri Suresh Gopi highlighted India’s efforts to integrate sustainability into initiatives like Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and PRASHAD. He underlined eco-friendly accommodations, rural and village tourism, and tech-driven platforms as central to inclusive growth. Collaboration with states, industry, civil society, and local communities is key to making tourism resilient and future-ready.
Strengthening Connectivity and Infrastructure
Seamless connectivity across road, rail, air, and waterways is a cornerstone of India’s tourism vision. Programs like UDAN, multi-modal transport hubs, and last-mile connectivity improvements ensure accessibility to diverse destinations. Investments in airports, highways, and inland waterways facilitate a smooth travel experience for domestic and international visitors, while promoting equitable regional development.
Key highlights included MoUs with Netflix, Atithi Foundation, and leading Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). The Netflix collaboration will showcase Indian destinations globally through cinematic storytelling, while partnerships with Atithi Foundation and OTAs aim to strengthen research, capacity building, and data-driven policy decisions.
Digital Innovation and Knowledge Sharing
The Ministry launched the Project Management Information System (PMIS), a digital platform enabling real-time monitoring of tourism infrastructure projects. Additionally, the 66th edition of the India Tourism Data Compendium was released, reflecting record international and domestic arrivals, employment growth, and India’s 20th rank globally in tourist arrivals.
A guidebook, “Guide to MUDRA Loans for Homestays,” was unveiled to assist stakeholders with online applications through the Jan Samarth portal. High-level panels discussed transportation and connectivity, while thematic sessions showcased case studies like Mahakumbh 2025 and the Statue of Unity. AI, AR/VR, and digital twin technologies were highlighted to enhance planning and visitor experiences.

The World Tourism Day 2025 celebration reaffirmed India’s commitment to making tourism a driver of sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous development. By integrating cross-sectoral synergies, promoting innovation, and empowering communities, India aims to showcase its cultural and natural heritage while positioning tourism as a key pillar of Viksit Bharat 2047.
