Maha Navami 2025: Date, Muhurat, Puja Vidhi & Significance

RR Team, October 1, 2025September 30, 2025
Maha Navami, the third day of Durga Puja and the final day of Navratri, will be celebrated on October 1, 2025. This auspicious day marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. Devotees begin the day with Mahasnan (ritual bath) and Shodashopachar Puja, seeking the blessings of Maa Durga and her nine avatars.
Maha Navami is considered highly significant, emphasizing the divine feminine energy and purity. Worshippers believe that performing the rituals correctly can cleanse past karma, enhance spiritual well-being, and bring prosperity and positivity to their lives.

Shubh Muhurat and Tithi for Maha Navami 2025

According to Drik Panchang, the key timings for Maha Navami 2025 are:

  • Navami Tithi Begins: 6:06 PM on September 30
  • Navami Tithi Ends: 7:01 PM on October 1
  • Brahma Muhurta: 4:37 AM to 5:26 AM
  • Pratah Sandhya Muhurat: 5:01 AM to 6:14 AM
  • Vijaya Muhurta / Ayudha Puja: 2:09 PM to 2:57 PM
  • Nishita Muhurta: 11:46 PM to 12:35 AM, October 2
  • Ravi Yoga: 8:06 AM to 6:15 AM, October 2

These timings guide devotees for performing Navami Kanya Pujan (Kanjak Puja), a ritual involving the worship of nine young girls representing the nine forms of Maa Durga.

Maha Navami Puja Vidhi and Rituals

Devotees should wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean, preferably new clothes. The worship area is cleaned, and Maa Durga’s idol or image is adorned with a red chunri. A diya (lamp) is lit, and the Maha Navami Puja is performed to honor the goddess’s divine energy.

The Navami Kanya Pujan involves welcoming nine young girls into the home, washing their feet as a sign of respect, and tying a holy thread (Kalawa) on their wrists. They are offered a tilak with kumkum and prasad such as halwa, puri, kala chana, sweets, and sometimes gifts like bangles or clothes as a token of devotion.

Significance of Maha Navami

Maha Navami is a celebration of Maa Durga’s power and the victory of righteousness. Performing the rituals on this day is believed to bring spiritual benefits, cleanse past sins, and attract prosperity and positivity into the household.

The festival reinforces devotion to the divine feminine, encourages family participation, and preserves the traditional customs of Navratri. Observing these rituals faithfully is considered essential for gaining the blessings of Maa Durga.
