Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025: Students Spark Innovation Nationwide

RR Team, October 8, 2025October 7, 2025
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, has launched the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025, India’s largest-ever student innovation initiative. The program has already received overwhelming participation from students across approximately 2.5 lakh schools nationwide, marking a historic step toward achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, Test Pilot with the Indian Air Force, ISRO astronaut, and Brand Ambassador of the Buildathon, addressed students through a video message, urging them to participate and contribute to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. He emphasized that the initiative offers Grades 6–12 a unique platform to express creativity and develop innovative prototypes addressing real-life challenges.Highlighting key themes such as Vocal for Local and Swadeshi innovation, Group Captain Shukla encouraged students to think beyond conventional solutions. “Every idea, big or small, can help shape Viksit Bharat 2047,” he remarked, motivating young innovators to design projects with tangible social impact.

Participation and Evaluation

Schools are required to submit entries in the form of photos and videos, which will be assessed by an expert panel. The top-performing teams will share prizes from a total pool of Rs 1 crore, recognizing and rewarding excellence in creativity and practical innovation. This structured evaluation aims to nurture a culture of problem-solving and entrepreneurship among students nationwide.

National Reach and Engagement

The Buildathon has successfully engaged students from diverse regions of India, reflecting a nationwide commitment to fostering a culture of innovation. By involving participants from nearly 2.5 lakh schools, the initiative ensures inclusivity and equal opportunity for students to contribute to national development goals.

Through this initiative, the Ministry of Education and Atal Innovation Mission aim to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem, preparing the next generation of thinkers, creators, and entrepreneurs for sustainable development. The Buildathon also seeks to instill a sense of civic responsibility, encouraging students to leverage technology and creativity to solve pressing social and environmental challenges.

Driving Atmanirbhar Bharat

The Viksit Bharat Buildathon is more than a competition; it is a platform to promote self-reliance, innovation, and problem-solving among students. By focusing on local solutions, sustainable practices, and Swadeshi ideas, the program aligns with India’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, motivating youth to actively participate in nation-building and economic resilience.

With strong mentorship from distinguished leaders like Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, and structured support from the Atal Innovation Mission, the Buildathon empowers students to convert innovative concepts into actionable prototypes, fostering a generation ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

The initiative’s extensive scale and focus on actionable innovation underscore India’s commitment to cultivating young talent and integrating their contributions into the national development agenda. By promoting creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship among students, the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 exemplifies India’s push toward a technologically advanced, self-reliant, and inclusive future.
