Revamped Sugamya Bharat App Launched at Purple Fest, Goa

RR Team, October 12, 2025October 12, 2025
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has launched the revamped Sugamya Bharat App at the Purple Fest in Goa. The launch event took place at the ALIMCO stall and was led by Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, DEPwD, in the presence of top officials including Ms. Manmeet Kaur Nanda, Additional Secretary, and Shri Praveen Kumar, CMD, ALIMCO.
Redesigned with a user-first and accessibility-first approach, the Sugamya Bharat App aims to become India’s digital accessibility hub, providing information, schemes, and services directly to persons with disabilities. Developed in collaboration with SBI Foundation, NAB Delhi, ISTEM, and Mission Accessibility, the app features screen reader compatibility, voice navigation, and multi-language support to ensure inclusivity for all users.

The app offers a wide range of features, including accessibility mapping to rate and locate public spaces, a consolidated directory of government schemes, scholarships, and employment opportunities. Users can also access curated job and education listings, and the grievance redressal module allows reporting of inaccessible infrastructure and services, promoting accountability in public spaces.

Shri Rajesh Aggarwal highlighted that the revamped Sugamya Bharat App is more than a technological upgrade; it is a gateway to empowerment. “It connects persons with disabilities to opportunities, information, and the power to demand accessibility, all through their smartphones,” he said. Shri Jagannath Sahu, President, SBI Foundation, emphasized that inclusive technology can bridge societal gaps and unlock the potential of millions.

The launch was attended by dignitaries from SBI Foundation and NAB Delhi, including CEOs and Presidents, highlighting strong public-private collaboration. Originally launched under the Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), the app has evolved into a comprehensive mobile-based ecosystem empowering persons with disabilities to shape India’s accessibility landscape.

With this launch, India moves closer to a digitally inclusive society, ensuring that accessibility, information, and opportunities are available at the fingertips of every citizen, regardless of ability.
