India, Mongolia Deepen Bonds on Dharma & Development

RR Team, October 14, 2025October 15, 2025
The President of Mongolia, H.E. Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, was warmly received by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla at Makar Dwar, Parliament House, Delhi, today. The visit marked a milestone in India-Mongolia relations, emphasizing shared values of democracy, dharma, and development (3D).

Strengthening 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations

During bilateral discussions, Shri Birla highlighted the 70th anniversary of India-Mongolia diplomatic relations and lauded the steadily deepening partnership across multiple domains. He reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to parliamentary democracy, drawing upon his 2023 visit to Mongolia. The Speaker noted the vast potential for cooperation in defence, health, information technology, and economic development.

Shri Birla emphasized the deep historical and spiritual connections between the two nations, rooted in Buddhist heritage. Quoting Lord Buddha’s mantra, “Bahujan Hitaya Bahujan Sukhaya,” he highlighted its influence on India’s dharma-driven governance and policy framework. He also showcased the Dharma Chakra above the Speaker’s Chair as a symbol of enduring dharma-based leadership.

New Parliament Building and Cultural Heritage

The Speaker briefed the Mongolian delegation on the new Parliament Building, completed despite global pandemic challenges. He described it as a reflection of India’s aspirations and Buddhist philosophy, with galleries displaying the verse: “Buddham Sharanam Gacchami, Dhammam Sharanam Gacchami, Sangham Sharanam Gachchhami,” inspiring citizens to “become like light.”

Delegates admired the architectural grandeur, artistic elegance, and vibrant democratic traditions symbolized by the building.

Parliamentary Cooperation and Capacity Building

Shri Birla underlined growing parliamentary engagement, noting that regular exchanges between India and Mongolia’s legislatures have strengthened bilateral ties. He encouraged Mongolian parliamentarians to leverage India’s Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) for capacity-building initiatives, recalling the 2023 MoU signed to enhance parliamentary collaboration.

Highlighting India’s focus on women’s participation, Shri Birla noted constitutional provisions reserving 33–50% representation in local bodies and the landmark “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies, reinforcing women-led development.

Mongolian Perspective on India

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa warmly recalled Shri Birla’s visit to Mongolia in 2023 and described India as a “spiritual neighbour and a great friend.” He commended India’s emergence as a rapidly growing economic power contributing to global peace and stability, and praised India’s leadership of the Global South. The President expressed hope for continued collaboration on multilateral platforms based on mutual respect and shared benefit.
