WCD Ministry Honoured for PMJANMAN Excellence

RR Team, October 20, 2025October 20, 2025

New Delhi: The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) has been awarded for its outstanding contribution to the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PMJANMAN), a flagship initiative aimed at uplifting India’s Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu during the National Conclave on ‘Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan’ held at Vigyan Bhawan on October 17, 2025.

Shri Anil Malik, Secretary of MWCD, accepted the award on behalf of the ministry, acknowledging the collective efforts of all involved in the successful implementation of the scheme.

Empowering Tribal Communities through Anganwadi Centres

Under PMJANMAN, over 2,000 Anganwadi Centres have been activated in PVTG areas, providing essential services such as early childhood education, nutrition, and healthcare. These centres play a crucial role in empowering tribal communities at the grassroots level, ensuring that the benefits of development reach the most marginalized sections of society.

PMJANMAN: A Comprehensive Approach to Tribal Welfare

Launched in November 2023, PMJANMAN is a multi-ministerial initiative targeting the socio-economic development of 75 PVTG communities across 18 states and one Union Territory. The scheme encompasses 11 critical interventions implemented by nine ministries, with a total budgetary outlay of ₹24,104 crore. Key objectives include:

  • Providing safe housing and clean drinking water
  • Improving access to education, health, and nutrition
  • Enhancing road and telecom connectivity
  • Electrifying unelectrified households
  • Creating sustainable livelihood opportunities

These interventions aim to bridge the development gap and ensure that tribal communities are integrated into the nation’s growth trajectory.

President’s Address: A Vision for Inclusive Governance

In her address at the conclave, President Murmu emphasized the importance of participatory governance and the role of tribal communities in shaping national policies. She highlighted the government’s commitment to providing not just financial assistance but also opportunities in education, health, employment, technical skills, and equal participation in governance. The President expressed confidence that initiatives like PMJANMAN and the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan would empower tribal societies and contribute to a more inclusive and self-reliant India.
