The Ministry of Women and Child Development hosted a special felicitation ceremony today to honour the Indian Women’s Cricket Team for the Blind, celebrating their extraordinary achievement in winning the inaugural T20 World Cup held in November 2025. Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Smt. Annpurna Devi, personally felicitated the players, congratulating them for their historic victory and inspiring journeys.
The ceremony was graced by Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, former Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Chairperson of the World Organizing Committee for the SBI 1st Women’s T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind. She lauded the team for breaking barriers and setting benchmarks for women and girls with disabilities.

Historic Performance on the Field

Led by Captain Deepika T. C. from Karnataka and Vice-Captain Ganga S. Kadam from Maharashtra, the team remained undefeated throughout the tournament. In a thrilling final against Nepal on 23rd November 2025 in Colombo, India secured victory by seven wickets, restricting Nepal to 114/5 and chasing the target in just 12.1 overs.

C. shone with a remarkable 91 off 58 balls against Australia in earlier matches. Young talent Karuna Pangi Kumari, a Class 10 student from Visakhapatnam, contributed 42 runs in the final, and Durga Yevle, born in 2003, inspired with her journey from a small-town background to national glory.

Recognition and Inspiration

Addressing the team, Smt. Annpurna Devi stated that their success embodies the spirit of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and reflects the aspirations of a nation committed to empowering every girl to dream, aspire, and achieve. She emphasised that such achievements demonstrate the potential of India’s daughters in driving the country’s progress towards a Viksit Bharat, where opportunities are inclusive and accessible.

Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi praised the players for their determination, talent, and national pride, highlighting that their victory is a landmark moment for women’s blind cricket and a symbol of India’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive development.

Ministry Celebrates Milestone

The Ministry of Women and Child Development expressed immense pride in hosting the team and celebrating this historic milestone. The felicitation underscores the growing prominence of women in sports, particularly in inclusive cricket, and reinforces the nation’s commitment to empowering differently-abled athletes to achieve global excellence.
