UMEED Portal Uploads End After 6-Month Drive

RR Team, December 8, 2025December 8, 2025
The six-month nationwide exercise to upload and verify Waqf properties on the UMEED Central Portal officially concluded on 6 December 2025, marking a major milestone in India’s efforts to digitise and streamline Waqf property records. The portal, launched by Union Minister of Minority Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju on 6 June 2025, was created under the UMEED Act, 1995, following explicit directions from the Supreme Court.

Massive Upload Surge Before Deadline

The Ministry of Minority Affairs confirmed that the final hours witnessed a sharp surge in uploads across States and Union Territories. Continuous review meetings, technical training, and direct interventions by senior officials helped accelerate the pace as the deadline approached.

As per official data, the final numbers recorded on the portal are significant:

  • 5,17,040 Waqf properties were initiated on the portal
  • 2,16,905 properties approved by designated authorities
  • 2,13,941 properties submitted and pending verification
  • 10,869 property entries rejected after scrutiny

These figures reflect the largest centralised digital compilation of Waqf properties ever undertaken in India.

Continuous Training and Nationwide Coordination

To support this countrywide effort, the Ministry organised extensive capacity-building initiatives for Waqf Boards and Minority Departments. Regular workshops, hands-on training sessions, and virtual interactions ensured that every State and UT had access to the necessary guidance.

A landmark two-day Master Trainer Workshop in New Delhi served as a crucial pillar of the initiative. The workshop equipped technical and administrative representatives with advanced portal management skills, enabling them to train local uploading teams in their respective States.

Seven Zonal Meetings and a Dedicated Helpline

Senior officers from the Ministry travelled across the country to assess the ground-level pace of uploads. Seven zonal reviews were organised to monitor progress, address operational challenges, and ensure uniformity in data entry standards.

The Ministry also set up a dedicated helpline to resolve technical issues on priority, helping hundreds of officials troubleshoot problems quickly during the busy final phase.

Over 20 Review Meetings Led by Secretary

One of the most notable aspects of this campaign was the proactive involvement of Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar. He chaired more than 20 review meetings during the six-month window, consistently monitoring State-wise progress and providing real-time direction to ensure timely completion.

A Landmark Step Toward Transparency and Reform

The closure of the upload window marks the completion of a crucial stage in India’s drive to bring transparency and accountability to Waqf property management. The UMEED Portal integrates digital records, reduces the scope for manual errors, and creates a unified national database a significant reform in the administration of community assets.

The next phase will involve detailed scrutiny, dispute resolution, and policy implementation based on the digital data now securely captured on the portal.
