PM Modi Lauds Sanskrit’s Role in Doordarshan’s Suprabhatam

RR Team, December 10, 2025December 10, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has once again brought national attention to the enduring significance of Sanskrit, praising Doordarshan’s long-running morning program Suprabhatam for integrating Sanskrit subhāṣitas into its daily broadcast. His remarks, shared through a post on X, highlight how the language continues to influence India’s cultural, spiritual, and philosophical discourse even today.
The Prime Minister’s message emphasizes that Sanskrit, often regarded as the foundational language of India’s civilizational heritage, continues to resonate in modern communication. He noted that the daily Sanskrit subhāṣita presented in Doordarshan’s Suprabhatam seamlessly blends values, wisdom, and cultural teachings making ancient knowledge accessible to contemporary audiences.

In an era of rapidly advancing technology and artificial intelligence, PM Modi’s comments spotlight the importance of maintaining a connection to India’s linguistic and cultural roots. His post also serves as a reminder that Sanskrit is not just an ancient language confined to scriptures or academia but a living medium capable of inspiring and guiding society.

PM Modi’s Message on Sanskrit and Cultural Continuity

Sharing his thoughts on X, PM Modi wrote in Sanskrit, reaffirming his commitment to promoting the language in public life. He observed that Doordarshan’s Suprabhatam program includes a daily Sanskrit subhāṣita, offering a short but meaningful reflection every morning. This integration of language and values, he said, helps cultivate cultural awareness among viewers across generations.

His Sanskrit message read:

“दूरदर्शनस्य सुप्रभातम् कार्यक्रमे प्रतिदिनं संस्कृतस्य एकं सुभाषितम् अपि भवति। एतस्मिन् संस्कारतः संस्कृतिपर्यन्तम् अन्यान्य-विषयाणां समावेशः क्रियते। एतद् अस्ति अद्यतनं सुभाषितम्….”

The Prime Minister’s use of fluent Sanskrit underscores his broader vision of promoting India’s traditional knowledge systems while encouraging linguistic pride among citizens. It also reflects his belief that Sanskrit’s wisdom can play a meaningful role in shaping modern societal values.

Importance of Sanskrit in India’s Cultural Fabric

Sanskrit has long been regarded as a vital pillar of India’s intellectual and spiritual tradition. It is the language of the Vedas, Upanishads, classical literature, and philosophical treatises that have shaped Indian thought for millennia. Despite its ancient roots, Sanskrit continues to hold relevance in areas such as linguistics, yoga studies, computational science, and cultural education.

Government initiatives in recent years have included expanding Sanskrit education, supporting digital tools for language learning, and promoting Sanskrit research universities. The Prime Minister’s latest remarks add to these efforts, emphasizing that preserving the language is essential for safeguarding India’s timeless knowledge and cultural continuity.

The daily Sanskrit subhāṣitas broadcast on Doordarshan serve as short reflections that convey moral lessons, social values, and philosophical insights  many of which remain applicable in contemporary life. Programs like Suprabhatam thus help deepen cultural awareness in an increasingly globalized world.

A Revival of Language Through Media

Doordarshan’s effort to incorporate Sanskrit sayings daily is part of a broader cultural revival supported by educational institutions, cultural organizations, and the government. Media platforms play a crucial role in keeping classical traditions alive by presenting them in accessible formats. For many viewers, Suprabhatam serves as a reminder of India’s cultural wealth at the start of each day.

By recognizing such programs, PM Modi not only appreciates Doordarshan’s contribution but also encourages other institutions to integrate India’s traditional knowledge systems into their content and outreach strategies.

The Prime Minister’s remarks have sparked positive responses across social media, with many users expressing admiration for the infusion of Sanskrit into mainstream programming. Cultural scholars have welcomed the move, noting that consistent exposure to the language can significantly enhance public understanding and appreciation.
