PM Modi Honors Bharati on Birth Anniversary

RR Team, December 11, 2025December 11, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Mahakavi Subramania Bharati on his birth anniversary, describing the legendary poet as one of the most powerful voices of India’s cultural, spiritual, and national awakening. Bharati, revered as a revolutionary writer and an architect of modern Tamil literature, remains an enduring symbol of courage, equality, and creative brilliance.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister highlighted how Bharati’s verses inspired countless people during India’s freedom movement and how his thoughts continue to influence the nation’s collective consciousness. The Prime Minister also emphasised that Bharati envisioned an inclusive society built on justice, fairness, and harmony principles that remain relevant even today.

The Poet Who Lit the Flame of Courage

Mahakavi Subramania Bharati, often called “Bharathiyar,” produced poetry that captured the essence of patriotism, human dignity, and social reform. His writings played a vital role in inspiring the masses during the struggle for independence. Prime Minister Modi noted that Bharati’s verses were not merely literary creations but powerful catalysts that ignited courage in hearts across India.

Bharati’s poems blended lyrical beauty with revolutionary ideas. His works such as Viduthalai, Achamillai Achamillai, and Pudhumai Penn continue to inspire movements advocating freedom, women’s empowerment, and social equality. His boldness and fierce individuality set him apart as a poet far ahead of his time.

Bharati’s Vision for an Inclusive and Just Society

Prime Minister Modi highlighted Bharati’s belief in a progressive and inclusive India. Bharati’s fight against social evils, including caste discrimination and inequality, shaped him into one of the earliest champions of social justice. His famous writings emphasised that all human beings irrespective of caste, gender, or economic status deserve dignity and equal opportunities.

Bharati advocated for women’s education, gender equality, and empowerment at a time when such ideas were not widely accepted. He imagined a society where women could lead with confidence, courage, and creativity. Many of his iconic compositions celebrate the strength, intelligence, and potential of women.

Unparalleled Contribution to Tamil Literature

Bharati’s influence on Tamil literature remains unmatched. His works expanded the boundaries of Tamil poetic tradition by introducing modern themes, styles, and rhythms. His ability to combine simplicity with depth allowed his poetry to resonate with people from all walks of life.

His literary contributions are celebrated across Tamil Nadu and the wider Indian literary community. Institutions, universities, and cultural organisations continue to study and promote his works. Bharati’s poems have been translated into numerous languages, ensuring his legacy reaches global audiences.

Modi’s Tribute Reflects Continued National Reverence

The Prime Minister’s tribute adds to the national remembrance of Bharati’s unparalleled contributions. In recent years, the government has undertaken several initiatives to promote Bharati’s works, including digital archival projects, cultural events, and national celebrations dedicated to his life and writings.

Bharati’s messages of unity, courage, and national pride align deeply with contemporary India’s aspirations. His vision of a culturally vibrant and socially just nation continues to guide and inspire policymakers, writers, artists, and citizens.

Legacy That Continues to Inspire Generations

More than a century after his time, Bharati’s writings continue to enrich Indian literature and collective thought. His works remain deeply connected to India’s cultural roots while encouraging modern, progressive thinking. The Prime Minister’s tribute stands as a reminder of the poet’s enduring relevance and the timeless nature of his vision.
