Ministry Reviews Arrangements for 814th Urs at Ajmer Dargah

RR Team, December 14, 2025December 14, 2025
The Ministry of Minority Affairs has reviewed the preparedness for the 814th Urs of Dargah Khwaja Saheb in Ajmer, Rajasthan, with a strong focus on ensuring the safety, security and overall convenience of lakhs of pilgrims expected to visit during the annual Sufi congregation. The Urs is scheduled to begin on December 17, 2025, and remains one of the most significant spiritual events in the country, drawing devotees from across India and abroad.
The review meeting was held in Ajmer on Friday and aimed at assessing ground-level arrangements, inter-agency coordination and readiness of local authorities. Officials stressed that meticulous planning and continuous monitoring are crucial for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Urs, given the large influx of Ziyareens over several days.

Focus on Safety, Security and Crowd Management

During the meeting, senior officials reviewed key measures being undertaken to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims. These include the installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations in and around the Dargah Khwaja Saheb complex, improved lighting, and strengthened crowd management protocols to prevent congestion during peak days.

The District Administration informed the Ministry that detailed deployment plans for police and civil defence personnel have been prepared. Special attention is being given to entry and exit routes, emergency response mechanisms and coordination between security agencies to handle any unforeseen situations efficiently.

Officials also highlighted the importance of removing stray animals from the DKS area and surrounding routes to minimise risks to pilgrims, especially during night hours when footfall remains high.

Essential Facilities for Pilgrims Under Review

The Ministry of Minority Affairs emphasised the need for adequate civic amenities to ensure a comfortable experience for Ziyareens. Arrangements for uninterrupted drinking water supply, mobile and permanent toilets, proper sanitation and regular waste disposal were reviewed in detail.

Parking facilities for buses and private vehicles, traffic diversions and signage have been planned to reduce congestion in the city during the Urs period. The administration has been instructed to maintain strict hygiene standards around the shrine and accommodation areas, with regular inspections throughout the event.

Visit to Ashray Sthali (Musafirkhana)

As part of the field review, officials from the Ministry visited the Ashray Sthali, also known as the Musafirkhana, being developed on approximately 150 bigha of land on the outskirts of Ajmer. The facility is being set up to provide temporary accommodation and basic amenities to pilgrims during the Urs.

The inspection focused on the availability of shelter, water, sanitation, electricity and medical support at the camp. Officials interacted with local authorities to ensure that the Musafirkhana is fully operational well before the commencement of the Urs.

Tradition of Prime Minister’s Chadar Continues

Reiterating a long-standing tradition, officials noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will send a Chadar for offering at Dargah Khwaja Saheb this year as well. The annual gesture symbolises respect for India’s composite cultural and spiritual heritage and underscores the inclusive ethos of the Urs.

The offering of the Prime Minister’s Chadar has become a significant moment during the Urs, reflecting the message of harmony, devotion and mutual respect associated with the shrine.

Coordination and Continuous Monitoring Emphasised

The Ministry expressed satisfaction with the preparedness outlined by the District Administration but underlined the importance of continuous monitoring throughout the Urs period. Officials directed all line departments to remain on high alert and respond promptly to any emerging issues.

The meeting was chaired by Shri S. P. Singh Teotia, Director, Ministry of Minority Affairs, and attended by senior district officials and representatives of Dargah Khwaja Saheb. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with state and district authorities to ensure that pilgrims can perform their Ziyarat in a safe, secure and comfortable environment.
