India’s Textile Sector Exports Reach $37.75B in FY 2024-25

RR Team, December 16, 2025December 16, 2025
India’s textile and apparel sector, including handicrafts, has demonstrated resilience amid global economic challenges, achieving total exports of USD 37.75 billion in FY 2024-25. This reflects a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.49% over the last three years, according to data shared by the Ministry of Textiles.

Export Trends Across Commodities

The sector’s growth was driven by multiple segments. Readymade garments recorded exports of USD 15.99 billion, Cotton textiles stood at USD 12.30 billion, and Man-made textiles reached USD 5.29 billion. Other key exports included carpets (USD 1.54 billion), silk products (USD 162.09 million), jute products (USD 399.89 million), and handloom items (USD 141.96 million). Handicrafts contributed USD 1.77 billion, collectively pushing total textile and apparel exports to USD 35.99 billion.

Government Measures and Global Compliance

The government is actively monitoring emerging international regulatory frameworks, including carbon-border measures and labor-compliance standards, which could affect textile exports. Currently, textile products are not covered under the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), minimizing direct impact. However, the Ministry of Textiles, in consultation with the Department of Commerce and other agencies, continues to assess indirect effects and potential future implications.

Promoting Sustainability and Circularity

To foster environmental sustainability, several initiatives have been implemented. A tripartite MoU between the Textiles Committee, GeM, and SCOPE promotes upcycled products in public procurement. Awareness campaigns such as “Circle Back” target students, while exhibitions like Vastra Katha at Bharat Tex 2024 and 2025 highlight sustainable textile practices. Additionally, the government is ensuring social security coverage under the Code on Social Security 2020 for garment and handloom workers.

Welfare Initiatives for Handloom Workers

The Ministry implements the National Handloom Development Programme to support weavers and workers. Financial aid of Rs. 8,000 per month is provided to senior weavers in indigent circumstances, and scholarships of up to Rs. 2 lakh are available for their children. Insurance coverage through Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) offers protection against natural or accidental deaths and disabilities.

ESG Taskforce for a Sustainable Textile Industry

An Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Taskforce has been constituted to identify hotspots in the textile value chain and support the transition toward sustainable and resource-efficient production. The multi-stakeholder platform includes representatives from industry, labor, and environmental sectors, ensuring holistic engagement with sustainability goals.
