Vice-President Hosts Christmas Luncheon, Calls for Unity and Viksit Bharat

RR Team, December 19, 2025December 19, 2025
New Delhi: Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday hosted a Christmas Luncheon at the Vice-President’s Enclave, extending warm greetings of Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to citizens across the country. The event, held ahead of Christmas, brought together religious leaders, constitutional authorities, and distinguished guests in a spirit of harmony and goodwill.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice-President said that Christmas conveys a timeless message of love, hope, and charity. He urged people to carry the spirit of the festival beyond the season and reflect its values in everyday life through compassion, service, and mutual respect.

Message of Love and Service

Reflecting on the essence of Christmas, the Vice-President highlighted that the festival’s message transcends religious boundaries. He noted that love, hope, and charity form the foundation of a just and inclusive society and remain relevant in addressing modern social and moral challenges.

He encouraged citizens to internalise these values in their daily conduct, stressing that festivals should inspire sustained positive action rather than remain symbolic observances limited to a single day.

Tribute to the Christian Community

Shri Radhakrishnan commended the invaluable contributions of the Christian community to nation-building. He particularly acknowledged their role in strengthening India’s social fabric through education, healthcare, and service to the underprivileged.

The Vice-President noted that Christian institutions have played a significant role in reaching remote and tribal areas, offering quality education and medical care while upholding values of service and inclusion. He described these efforts as integral to India’s development journey.

Call for Continued Nation-Building

Urging the Christian community to continue its constructive engagement, the Vice-President emphasised that national progress requires active participation from all sections of society. He said India’s diversity is its strength and collective effort is essential to address developmental and social challenges.

Referring to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, Shri Radhakrishnan said the ambitious goal could only be achieved through unity, shared responsibility, and inclusive growth.

Focus on Environment and Mission LiFE

The Vice-President also underlined the importance of environmental protection and sustainable living. He encouraged citizens to adopt Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), an initiative aimed at promoting environmentally responsible behaviour.

He observed that climate change and environmental degradation pose serious challenges and require lifestyle-level changes in addition to policy interventions. Adoption of sustainable practices, he said, would also contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Distinguished Attendance

The Christmas Luncheon witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries. Among those attending were the Governor of West Bengal, Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, and Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh.

Union Ministers of State Shri George Kurian and Shri Suresh Gopi were also present. The gathering included Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, Priests, Pastors, Reverend Fathers and Sisters, along with senior representatives from various church administrations across India.

Celebrating India’s Pluralism

The event reflected India’s pluralistic ethos, where festivals of different faiths are celebrated at the highest constitutional levels. Such interactions, officials said, reinforce mutual respect and strengthen the bonds between communities.

The Vice-President’s Enclave has traditionally hosted inter-faith gatherings on important occasions, symbolising the constitutional values of equality, fraternity, and secularism enshrined in India’s democracy.

National Message of Unity

The Vice-President’s remarks resonated beyond the festive occasion, offering a broader message of unity and shared responsibility. His call for carrying the spirit of Christmas into daily life underscored the idea that national progress depends as much on values as on economic and technological advancement.
