Sustainable Urban Development: Bhupender Yadav at CREDAI 2025

RR Team, December 19, 2025December 19, 2025
Union Environment Minister, Shri Bhupender Yadav, today highlighted the critical role of the real estate sector in shaping India’s sustainable urban future at the CREDAI National Conclave 2025 in New Delhi. He underscored the need for energy-efficient, climate-resilient, and green urban development to support India’s long-term environmental and economic goals. Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah graced the event as Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Yadav emphasized that India’s vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047 requires urban planning that is inclusive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable. Development and environmental protection, he noted, must progress hand in hand, with environmental considerations integrated at the earliest planning stages.

Real Estate’s Role in Climate Action

The Minister highlighted the real estate sector’s significant impact on energy consumption, water use, waste generation, air quality, and urban heat. He stressed that achieving India’s Net Zero 2070 target depends heavily on sustainable construction practices and climate-resilient city planning. Urban layouts, heat-adaptive materials, green cover, and sustainable mobility solutions, he added, are essential for future-ready cities.

Shri Yadav urged industry stakeholders to adopt energy-efficient designs, renewable energy, water-positive developments, circular construction practices, and green buildings. “Sustainability is no longer optional; it is the foundation of resilient, inclusive cities that serve citizens for decades,” he remarked.

Government Reforms for Environmental Governance

The Minister outlined reforms by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to modernize environmental governance. These include enhanced environmental clearance mechanisms, risk-based regulatory approaches, promotion of digital systems, and initiatives like Mission LiFE and the Green Credit Programme. He also emphasized strengthening urban air and water quality frameworks to safeguard public health.

Assuring developers, Shri Yadav stated that compliance will be rewarded while violations are addressed firmly. He highlighted that ease of doing business must coexist with strong environmental safeguards, ensuring timely approvals without compromising environmental standards.

Collaboration for Sustainable Cities

Shri Yadav commended CREDAI for its engagement and encouraged real estate associations to actively partner with the government in promoting sustainable practices. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to collaborative governance, regulatory reforms, and technology-driven solutions to ensure Indian cities are inclusive, resilient, and in harmony with nature.

He concluded that long-term value creation for cities and citizens depends on aligning urban development with climate-resilient and green building practices, ensuring India’s cities meet the challenges of climate change while enhancing quality of life.
