Divya Kala Mela 2025 Concludes with Message of Inclusion

RR Team, December 22, 2025December 22, 2025
Reinforcing the belief that persons with disabilities seek opportunity rather than sympathy, the nine-day Divya Kala Mela 2025 concluded successfully at Kartavya Path, near India Gate, on Sunday. Organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the event emerged as a national showcase of inclusion, self-reliance and entrepreneurial strength.

Held from December 13 to December 21, the mela brought together Divyang artisans, entrepreneurs and performers from across India, highlighting their economic contribution, creativity and determination. The event sent a clear message that disability does not limit potential; it is societal perspective that needs transformation.

A Sustained Movement for Economic Empowerment

The return of Divya Kala Mela to Kartavya Path marked its 28th edition since the initiative began at the same venue in December 2022. Over time, the mela has evolved into a sustained nationwide movement aimed at empowering persons with disabilities through economic participation and market access.

Across 28 editions held in different parts of the country, more than 2,362 Divyang participants have taken part, collectively generating business exceeding ₹23 crore. These figures underline growing public trust in Divyang-led enterprises and the viability of inclusive economic models.

Strong Response in Delhi Edition

The Delhi edition of Divya Kala Mela 2025 witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 100 Divyang artisans and entrepreneurs representing 20 States. Visitors were offered a wide range of products, including home décor items, handicrafts, handlooms and organic food products.

Several product categories recorded strong consumer demand, with overall sales crossing ₹2 crore during the event. The response reflected increasing awareness among citizens about supporting inclusive businesses and recognising quality craftsmanship beyond physical limitations.

Employment and Financial Inclusion Initiatives

Beyond showcasing products, the mela also focused on creating pathways for employment and financial inclusion. A special job fair organised on December 16 saw participation from 157 Divyang youth, demonstrating the growing aspiration for mainstream employment.

Out of the participants, 99 candidates were shortlisted, and several received on-the-spot job offers from reputed companies. The initiative highlighted the readiness of the private sector to engage with skilled Divyang candidates when given the right platform.

Boost to Divyang Entrepreneurship

Supporting self-employment and enterprise creation, the National Divyang Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC) sanctioned loans exceeding ₹1.05 crore to Divyang entrepreneurs during the mela. These financial interventions are aimed at enabling sustainable livelihoods and business expansion.

Additionally, ALIMCO facilitated the distribution and registration of assistive devices, helping enhance functional independence and productivity among persons with disabilities.

Culture, Sports and Experiential Learning

A major highlight of the closing day was the “Divya Kala Shakti” cultural programme, where Divyang artists from the Delhi-NCR region delivered captivating performances in dance and music. Their performances powerfully demonstrated that artistic expression transcends physical limitations.

The Experience Zone, along with adaptive sports such as Blind Cricket and Boccia, offered visitors an immersive understanding of both the challenges and capabilities of persons with disabilities, fostering empathy, awareness and social inclusion.

Commitment to an Inclusive Future

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and NDFDC expressed gratitude to the citizens of Delhi, the local administration and the authorities at Kartavya Path for their support in making the event a success.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Department announced plans to organise similar initiatives across the country, with the objective of building a dignified, inclusive and opportunity-driven society where Divyangjan are recognised as equal partners in India’s journey towards self-reliance.
