AYUSHEXCIL Marks 4 Years as AYUSH Exports Rise 6.11%

RR Team, January 4, 2026January 4, 2026
The Ayush Export Promotion Council (AYUSHEXCIL) marked its fourth establishment anniversary in New Delhi on Saturday, highlighting India’s expanding footprint in the global traditional medicine and wellness market. The milestone comes at a time when exports of AYUSH and herbal products have recorded steady growth, reflecting rising international acceptance of India’s age-old healthcare systems.

According to official data, AYUSH exports increased by 6.11 per cent to USD 688.89 million in 2024–25, up from USD 649.2 million in the previous financial year. The growth trajectory has strengthened since the formation of AYUSHEXCIL, which has emerged as the nodal body driving export facilitation and global outreach for the sector.

Strengthening India’s AYUSH Export Ecosystem

Established to promote exports of traditional systems of medicine and wellness products, AYUSHEXCIL has focused on building exporter capacity and simplifying regulatory processes. Over the past four years, the Council has organised business-to-business meetings, international exhibitions, seminars, and outreach programmes across key overseas markets.

These initiatives have helped Indian exporters navigate complex global regulations while showcasing the therapeutic value of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, Homeopathy, and herbal products. Industry stakeholders credit the Council’s structured engagement strategy for improved market access and enhanced credibility of Indian AYUSH products abroad.

Boost from Trade Agreements and Policy Support

A major development supporting export growth has been the inclusion of India’s traditional medicine systems in bilateral and multilateral trade agreements. Dedicated annexes on health-related services and traditional medicine have been incorporated in agreements such as the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the India–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.

These provisions are expected to ease market entry barriers and create new opportunities for Indian AYUSH manufacturers and service providers. Officials say such recognition under trade frameworks signals growing global confidence in India’s traditional healthcare systems.

Ayush Quality Mark: A Global Assurance Framework

AYUSHEXCIL has also been entrusted with anchoring the Ayush Quality Mark programme of the Ministry of Ayush. The initiative was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2nd World Health Organization Summit on Traditional Medicine held in December 2025.

The quality mark aims to standardise production, ensure safety, and enhance international trust in AYUSH products. By providing a globally recognisable certification framework, the programme is expected to help Indian exporters differentiate their products in competitive overseas markets.

Institutional Journey Since 2022

AYUSHEXCIL was registered as a Section 8 company with the Registrar of Companies, New Delhi, on January 4, 2022. It was formally launched by the Prime Minister during the Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in April 2022.

In July 2023, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) officially notified the Council as the nodal Export Promotion Council for the AYUSH sector. The body functions in consultation with the Ministry of Ayush and with support from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Vision for the Fifth Year and Beyond

As AYUSHEXCIL enters its fifth year, the Council has outlined an ambitious roadmap. Key priorities include strengthening international cooperation, leveraging Free Trade Agreements more effectively, expanding certification frameworks, and deepening engagement with emerging markets.

Officials believe that sustained policy backing, combined with quality assurance and targeted promotion, will further enhance global acceptance of Indian traditional medicine. The Council’s efforts are closely aligned with the broader national initiatives of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.

With wellness and preventive healthcare gaining global prominence, India’s AYUSH sector is well positioned to play a larger role in the international healthcare economy. The fourth anniversary of AYUSHEXCIL thus marks not just an institutional milestone, but also India’s growing leadership in the global AYUSH and wellness space.
