Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir 2026 Focuses on Mining Reforms

RR Team, January 8, 2026January 9, 2026
The Ministry of Mines is organising the Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir–2026 from January 8 to 10 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat,
aiming to strengthen Centre–State coordination and address key regulatory and developmental challenges in India’s mining sector.
The three-day national conclave is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping policy direction at a time when minerals are central
to India’s economic growth and clean energy ambitions.

The event will bring together Union Ministers, State Mining Ministers, senior officials, industry experts and stakeholders to
deliberate on reforms that can improve efficiency, sustainability and self-reliance in the mining ecosystem.

High-Level Participation and Inauguration

The formal inauguration of the Chintan Shivir will be held on January 9 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy will inaugurate the event in the presence of several senior leaders.

Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri C. R. Patil, Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya,
Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, and Minister of State for Coal and Mines Shri Satish Chandra Dubey
will also participate, along with Ministers in charge of Mining from various States.

Focus on Critical Minerals Mission

A major highlight of the Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir–2026 will be in-depth discussions on the Critical Minerals Mission.
The mission aims to strengthen domestic availability of critical and strategic minerals essential for clean energy transition,
advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies.

Deliberations will focus on boosting exploration, securing supply chains, promoting domestic processing and value addition,
and enhancing coordination between the Centre and States to ensure long-term mineral security.

Mining Reforms and Sustainable Practices

The Chintan Shivir will also host focused sessions on exploration and auction of mineral blocks, adoption of advanced technologies,
mine safety, and sustainable and responsible mining practices. Improving ease of doing business and encouraging private sector
participation will remain key themes.

Emphasis will be placed on reducing import dependence, strengthening domestic value chains and aligning mining activity with
environmental safeguards and community welfare.

Centre–State Collaboration for Sector Growth

By providing a common platform for dialogue, the Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir–2026 is expected to facilitate the exchange of
best practices between the Centre and States. Discussions will aim to address bottlenecks, share innovative solutions and
chart a coordinated roadmap for the mining sector’s growth.

The outcomes of the deliberations are expected to support national priorities such as Atmanirbhar Bharat, clean energy
transition and sustainable economic development.
