the timeless philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam the world is one family.
Through this expedition, the Indian Navy aims to blend sail training, cultural diplomacy, and international maritime cooperation.
Global Ports and Prestigious International Events
A major highlight of Lokayan 26 will be INS Sudarshini’s participation in two internationally acclaimed tall-ship events. The vessel will take part in Escale à Sète in France and SAIL 250 in New York, USA, both of which draw legendary sail training ships from around the world.
At these global maritime gatherings, INS Sudarshini will proudly represent India’s naval heritage, traditional seamanship, and commitment to peaceful maritime engagement. The events provide a powerful platform to project India’s soft power through naval diplomacy.
Training the Next Generation of Seafarers
Over the course of the voyage, more than 200 trainees from the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard will undergo rigorous sail training aboard the tall ship. The long-range deployment will expose them to ocean navigation, weather management, and traditional sailing techniques.
Life onboard a sail training ship presents unique challenges and learning opportunities.
Trainees will gain hands-on experience in teamwork, leadership, and endurance,
skills essential for future maritime operations in both peacetime and conflict scenarios.
Strengthening Maritime Partnerships
During port visits, INS Sudarshini will engage with the navies of host nations through joint training activities, professional exchanges, and goodwill interactions. These engagements aim to deepen cooperation and mutual understanding among maritime forces.
The expedition also advances India’s maritime vision of MAHASAGAR, which focuses on collective security, growth, and resilience across the seas. Lokayan 26 stands as a symbol of India’s commitment to building bridges of trust across oceans.
A Proven Ambassador of India at Sea
Commissioned as the Indian Navy’s second sail training ship, INS Sudarshini has already logged over 1,40,000 nautical miles across previous deployments. She has consistently served as a floating ambassador of India’s professionalism, discipline, and maritime goodwill.
With Lokayan 26, INS Sudarshini continues her legacy as a beacon of India’s maritime strength,
showcasing not only naval capability but also cultural openness and international cooperation.
